Mentioned in another thread.. the injury toll on another talented Packers team of years past. You know.. one that had it shares of struggles and players stepping up to fill roles.. some late in the season.

So.. come (No not you Brett) along with me and help me fill in the missing struggles of that season.

Going into the season, we counted on Ruettgers to anchor the left side.. he never recovered and retired early in the Season. His replacement struggled game in and out.. Michels I believe.. Wilkerson eventually stepped up, and albeit not dominating.. did the job that needed to be done.

That help lead to another running game issue.. much like this season.. or lack of a big time one.. if memory serves under 4 yards a carry.

I think Chumra missed time that season.

Brooks was lost for a good junk of the season along with Freeman.

So we had a passing team without option 1 or 2 and still kept on chugging..

Defense.. I know we had issues on the line and at backer.. but I can't remember the timing.. \

Can my fellow members of the site help fill in the gaps?

And how they were acquired or were they on the roster going into the season?

Pack - I replied in another thread but I guess you didn't see it.

Brooks was our #1 WR. He was lost for the season during game 7.
Then Freeman, our #2 WR, around game 8 broke his arm and missed 4 games. He had to play several games with a special protective cast.

I forgot which defenders got injured but we weren't exactly 100% on Defense either.

As you said, the Ruettgers injury sucked as well.

By the way, those offensive injuries were more painful than what we're seeing this year. Our mighty O was only able to score 13 measly points against the 1-7 Bucs with both our #1 & #2 WRs out of the game.

Wolf took a risk and picked up Andre Rison as we were seeing how painful it was to win games without your top 2 WRs.

Rison turned out to be our savior as when Freeman came back, things got good again. Favre finished the year with 39 TDs passing, 2 rushing, and only 13 INTs and got his 2nd consecutive MVP and we went on to win the SB.

Nope.. Zombie.. I was hoping you would respond here.. I hope this thread could be somewhat therapeutic in nature and maybe remove some of this negative vibe hanging over Packerland.

Thanks for adding.. +1. (Btw.. you inspired the thread with your first response.)

And Wolf went out (rolled the dice) and picked up Rison ( who had issues as being a bad boy) and Keith Jackson (who said he would never play in Green Bay ) and lo and behold they BOTH helped the Green Bay Packers win a Super Bowl.
But then Ted Thompson does it his way to so many peoples delight.

Edgar and Dorsey had about a 4.5 average

Chewy didnt start for 3 games

but its hard to jog memory to back then..

But our main RB were okay, main people on D were okay is what I recall

Rison was added late in the season... so that 2010 chapter hasn't been written yet.. I believe we rolled a couple of weeks with Bebee, Mickens, and there was another draft kid out of Notre Dame.. I think.. never realized his potential.. damn can't think of his name.. #80 maybe.. whatever point applies, I think.

Jackson a malcontent.. and if memory serves right.. didn't report for a couple weeks.. so point taken there.. risk took. I believe we trade a pick for him preseason right?

I thought the running game was effect so to speak but we struggled behind that line.. I am working off memory here for the most part as I didn't find many 1996 injury links in search.. lol.

I recall quite clearly, we had a running game, a great defense, good recievers and great special teams.
Outside of a good QB and excellent receivers, this team dims in comparisons.
