In the post game he said they ran Finley underneath to isolate Jennings on one of the safeties. Finley was a viable option if Rodgers wanted to go there, obviously he didn't, so it's not that Mike specifically called for the ball to go downfield.

Aaron has thrown the ball to the hot receiver a number of time this year. Often for a first down. The YAC hasn't been there a lot this year. I think one of the reasons is how the receivers run after the catch. They seem to loop back towards the LOS trying to get around the defender. The DBs seem to be waiting for that move and then hit the receiver after he has lost a yard or two. That move is broken. They should toss it away and turn up field as soon as they have the ball.

I think this should be a slap at the defensive schemes. The specialty packages that are called have limited value. There is a good reason 30 NFL teams don't run a psycho package. It don't work week end and week out. It is an exotic package that is meant to confuse the OL. But after they have seen you run it a few times and they prepare for it, it looses its effectiveness. Some of the other formations don't work so well either.

Detroit had GB's number. They just tossed a short pass to wide open receivers all day long. In the end the defense held them out of the endzone but Detroit should have never dominated the stat line yesterday.

When was this? They didn't have the ball at all yesterday. When they did in the first half they were largely productive. In the second half Rodgers made an ill-advised throw to Jennings on the second possession. The second Rodgers INT was very close to being a huge downfield gain.

My point here is that Green Bay had the ball four times in the second half. A 3-and-out, two INTs, and the final drive.

When exactly were you having this thought all day long? If you were watching drive after drive capitulate to the defense I'd understand it. If you watched Green Bay stubbornly assert the run game with no success, I'd understand it. If you saw the Packers continually force the ball downfield, it'd make sense. That wasn't the case -- they barely touched the ball in the second half (after putting up 21 first half points).

Last week we killed the tackles because of the pass rush.. so this week they call a game to balance up the playcalling, which worked.. they gave up two sacks (one which Colledge blew a twist pickup, another topic all together).. and honestly were killing the Lions in the first half. You couldn't play a better game than the offense in the first half..

Second half the defense couldn't get off the field and we coughed the ball up a number of times.. one in which Rodgers threw a terrible pass (in defense his only mistake throwing the ball all day)... you don't have a lot to bitch about when you don't have the ball in the second half for more than a handful of plays.

When I read Rodgers statement.. I read it as if the defense didn't give the offense much to work with in the second half.. which they didn't. But part of that was on the offense and special teams.. turnovers gut a defense.. and a number of turnovers like we had in the second will have a defense sucking air. Which we were.

With that.. I don't have a ton to complain about from the defense in this game.. the Lions played a hell of a game in my opinion.. their playcalling was IMO an excellent blend of calls.. if the Lions don't shoot themselves in the foot constantly yesterday.. they are leading late in the game.

BTW.. that last drive was a thing of beauty for the Packers.. being able to run the ball and kill the clock was huge.

IMO.. this was a spot to force the run.. we better figure out how to run the ball if we want to be able to make a run in the playoffs.. sooner or later we are going to run into a team that will be able to force us to run.. either in coverage or pass rush... IMO, you have to have the element of the game available.. and it worked to perfection in the first half.. we had a full range of playcalling available in the first half against an underrated front from Detroit.

How about the shotgun crack-toss sweep to Jackson? What about the draw play they ran? How about the inside toss to Kuhn? The stretch play that he cutback to seal the game?

I liked that Green Bay upped the rush attempts yesterday, but I'm even more satisfied with the variety of runs utilized.

I totally agree with Pack93z. +1 Particularly on the Rodgers throw. People have written the script that it was a poor playcall. Ugh. It is up to the quarterback to make the right throw. Driver was beyond the first down mark and had outside position on his defender on an out route. Rodgers decided to put it downfield instead. He played a very good game, but I'm sure he wanted that one back -- he made not only a poor throw (throwing it inside when the defender had inside position) but the wrong throw (should have gone to Driver and converted the first).

Frustration and more than likely with himself. the only reason there was close to the number of runs as passes is because of series getting stopped by turnovers. There was 8 runs on the last drive right, so prior to that, they were running none to often either.

By the way, Aaron explained what happened on that first interception. He thought Jennings was going to run a back-shoulder route. But Jennings kept going. That's why the throw was short. It was a miscommunication. I think they've been overly reliant on the back shoulder throws this season, and I was afraid it would burn them sooner or later. Hopefully it won't happen again.

Ok all day long is a bit of an exaggeration. I just hate it when someone exaggerates on the internet don't you?

But my point, and I guess I was not very clear on it, is that I do not care for the "go for broke" deep pass into coverage. If you have a receiver that is in the clear ad you throw it long it can't be intercepted. If you plan on him cutting across the middle after going deep and there is not inside coverage that is fine too. But to throw a jump ball and hope the receiver is the one to come down with it. It hate it. I want to see the short passes. Take time off the clock. give the defense a chance to breath plays. Especially when the defense was out there so much. The home run quick strike would not have helped to rest the defense if they had to come right back out after a TD. It is great to score more points but it is great to give them a rest AND score the points.
