I don't hate Hawk or anything but I think one thing our defense is missing is an enforcer type linebacker in the middle. Someone who will blow people up at the line and make plays, not just a couple guys who are "solid" and "don't screw up". I understand that type of player is very hard to find but it's what I want.

Why can't we just restructure his contract?

because he may not be open to restructuring his contract if he wants to be an every down linebacker.

Exactly! And put in some incentives based on playing time, right? 😉

He better get o.k. with it because he's not getting $10 mil from ANYBODY. There is no way that will happen.

Thompson will make him an offer and Hawk and his agent will have to decide if he wants the deal or not. IF Hawk gets significant PT he may stay but my guess is if he doesn't he will move on to a team where he will.

I think Hawk is one of those type players that will take less money from a team where he will play and that is why I think the amount of PT he see's from here on out will settle the matter.

The solution to all this mess, make a deal and get our little
Lumpy back. He knows the playbook, won't cost a great deal,
and can be explosive.

He's said he won't accept a pay DECREASE.

I get what you're saying and believe me, completely respect it. But RainX brought up the money situation and there's only so much you can pay your team.

Let's say hypothetically, we have enough to pay big three defenders. I'd keep it as Charles Woodson, give a pay raise to CM3, and the other big pay would be to Nick Collins. Yes, not joking.

I'll have to research this but with the recent trends in the NFL going to passing, on D, you're better off paying big for DBs than LBs. Stopping the run is nice, but stopping the pass is more important. CM3 is an exception though as he's equivalent to our Aaron Kampman in the 4-3. We use him primarily to get our sacks.

I'm fine with one solid ILB (Nick Barnett) and one almost solid ILB (AJ Hawk). INTs win SBs nowadays, not run D. I assume that's what you mean by blowing up people at the line.

Now if money wasn't an issue, I'd be in complete agreement with you. If AJ Hawk is gone in 2011, my guess is it will be because of dollar signs, not just performance.

Throwing draft picks at the Bucs to get a guy back who we cut from our roster and who will, most likely, be injured again by week 7.
