He also said he would rather play in Green Bay. But if he was traded to a team that wanted him to play full time, he would be open to it. It was all taken out of context.

AJ and Laura are also having a baby and may be buying a house with a nursery instead of guest quarters. Just a thought.

You would think there would be enough space in a 4 bathroom / 4 bedroom house for a baby, but you never can tell with these celebrity types... lol

Hawk played a lot more against the bills, but Lynch looked a little better, it seems like an even trade, but id rather give a draft pick

Hawk said what you'd expect ANY football player to say. Which is that he wants to be on the field.

That's it. There's nothing more to it.

I know that playing time is important to players but the one aspect of this rumor I never understood is why would AJ want to go from a winning team priming for a Super Bowl appearance to a losing team possibly preparing for a top 5 spot in the draft?

Hawk was just talking about the idea of going to another team, not the Bills (or any other team) in particular.

Anyway, I think most players would rather play full time than part time, regardless of the quality of the team. A championship would not be satisfying for a player who got reduced playing time during the course of the season. These guys have big egos. If they didn't, they wouldn't be playing football at such a high level.

Reduced playing time is also bad from a money standpoint. The less you are on the field, the less you are going to get paid.

If it's related to the child, maybe they found a better place that suits their wants more? Or maybe their current place wasn't in the area they wanted to raise a child?

Who knows? Who cares?

The Hawk situation is tough. You've got a guy who was drafted #5 overall for our old scheme and is now seeing limited playing time in the new one. He's nearing the end of his rookie contract where his guaranteed money for 2011 jumps to $10 million at the start of the new league year next season. (March '11)

He's been solid in his 4+ seasons, but hasn't really been that "lights out" guy you hoped when you drafted him. Compound this with the fact you've got his backup and potential heir apparent sitting on the bench in Bishop who has been chomping at the bit for playing time. You've also got a lot of money sunk into two other players in the same group (Barnett & Chillar) over the next two years.

Do you keep him until the end of the season and then cut him loose before his $10 million becomes guaranteed? That's kind of hard to swallow considering what you have invested in the guy. You can't keep him at $10 million though either.

Do you extend him? A contract extension is probably going to cost quite a bit of money for a player who doesn't play every down in a position group where you've already got a lot of money sunk into two other guys who play more downs on average.

Do you trade him? Do you cut your losses on your investment before the deadline in Oct and try to get something for him? He could definitely bring a player in that could probably help you at a position where depth is needed and you probably wouldn't see a huge drop off on base defense when Bishop is healthy enough to play.

What ever the Packers do, I don't envy the decision they're going to have to make with him. All the above options are by no means great. Some just seem slightly better than others.

Why can't we just restructure his contract?
