One thing Whitts sure of is Woodson wont get beat like he did by the Cardinals in that playoff loss. Their receivers beat him at his own game. On one play, Larry Fitzgeralds 33-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter that gave the Cardinals a 31-10 lead, Fitzgerald violently threw Woodson aside. The same thing happened with Woodson getting shoved to the ground on another touchdown pass.
Whitt said members of referee Scott Greens officiating crew told Woodson before the game that they would be watching for his physical play, and that if he held, he would be penalized. There would be no gray area. The Packers believe that changed the way Woodson approached the game.
When the NFL sent an officiating crew to Green Bay to work a few training camp practices last month, Whitt asked some of those officials to watch the tape of those plays against Woodson from the Arizona game.
They said it should have been called offensive pass interference on both plays, Whitt said. Well, that doesnt do us any good because they scored two touchdowns on us. They said they saw that game at home, and there should have been flags thrown for offensive pass interference, and it happened twice. Thats 14 points, and we win the game. Thats very disappointing, and it wont happen again.
That wont happen this year because if the same things happen, well probably get the penalty because were not going to allow somebody to push us around. Thats not the way Charles has played. But it happened.
Woodson didnt hesitate to admit he can still taste the bitterness in his mouth from that game.
