B.J. Raji is the player I selected to report on throughout the year. I will do my best to watch him and see how he does, while enjoying the game at the same time.

Raji is taking over the NT position in is first year as a starter.

Last year (his rookie year), he was held back with a severe ankle injury at the start of the season. This year, however, he has been a full-go, and he is back to his natural position (NT) instead of DE.

He showed flashes last year as to what he can bring to the table. He got a sack, and he showed that he can blow up the RB in the backfield.

Let's see if he can continue to improve over this coming year.

I have a strange feeling that pickett is a better NT then raji but pickett is also a better DT then raji so they put pickett there and put raji where he 'should' be playing and hoping his skills improve etc ... which sounds good. Just hope pickett can stop the run and rush the passer as good as jolly did last season.

this is about raji thou - he doesnt have his ankle problem like he did last year so who knows maybe he does really well out there; be cool to see. I do have a feeling our front 7 will do better then year then last.
we have better Dline depth and our lbers know the scheme more.
And this in turn means all our players get more action on the QB 🙂

I like the move of Raji to nose tackle. It's a crucial position in the 3-4 and one he will be asked to play for the majority of his career in Green Bay. Better he starts getting the hang of it sooner rather than later.

Only disappointing thing is that as we play over half our snaps in the nickel with just two down linemen he may be off the field most of the time. Such is the emergence of Mike Neal as a pass rusher I can see him and Jenkins being the nickel linemen.

Still, Raji can master the art of occupying double teams and pushing the pocket we'll be happy with that.

With our paucity at linebacker I actually think we're going to need to rely on the DL for some added pass rush. Neal looks like the real deal and with Jenkins now on the opposite side from CM3 maybe that will help both players.

I too wish we had Jolly for this season. Having Raji and Pickett at nose tackle would help keep both fresh. But we don't, so I think what the Packers are trying to do is get they're 3 best linemen on the field. Neal's development will be a key to the season as far as linemen go. If Wilson can contribute at all it will be a real plus.

Raji got pushed around at times in the preseasaon games, so I'm a little worried about him. But he should be able to handle the job.

With as good as Pickett was on the inside and Raji's rushing ability, I was surprised they didn't keep that set up for the base defense. They can always move Raji to the inside during nickle packages anyway (which I think we run way too much).

Either way, we have a good back up plan if he continues to get pushed around . . . just move Pickett back to the middle!

Having both of them out on the field at once is a good thing and they wanted to put Raji at his natural position.I think he'll show his stuff in the regular season it was preseason so don't expect much from players.I think its a good move all in all for the position change thoe im not to worried that he'll be bad at NT. But if Raji got hurt I would not mind Pickett moving in NT to replace him for a game.

By the way, don't expect a huge long post by me on how he played. I will post how I thought he played and things like that. I'll do my best.

I also think Pickett is a better NT than Raji. Pickett gets very little pass rush, but he also made very little mistakes.... Raji on the other hand does get pass rush BUT he also loses focus where the ball is and what's going on with it...

The Colts game showed it well... Raji forced Manning to move and roll out a couple of times. But he also gave up RB Addai's very long run... Addai was right next to him with the ball and he didn't notice he was coming and once he did it was too late as dived for an arm tackle and it didn't even slow up Addai.

Hopefully Raji can improve but I still wouldn't mind it if Pickett was the NT if/when the other team gets inside the Packers 10 or 5 yard line... less mistake is better in tight spots IMO.

Couldn't disagree more on your analysis of Raji giving up the Addai run play. First off, he was attacking the A gap and was double teamed by the center and guard, he then fought back towards Addai while his left shoulder was being jammed by the guard, not much more he could do. Raji forced the cut back and Chillar was up Raji's ass and couldn't fill the gap.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
    Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
