Alexander was a starter for Jackonsville last season and was expected to be a starter again this year but was a surprise cut on Saturday. He played his first two seasons for the Detroit Lions, who traded him to Jacksonville last year.

I'm glad to see Ted Thompson isn't settling for the shite secondary he's assembled this offseason. As a player from scrimmage Derrick Martin scares me. And Peprah hardly fills me with joy. Both are replaceable.

I'd take him over Peprah. I'd take Martin over Peprah as well, solely because of Special Teams (and I like his intensity on the field).

Peprah is actually a solid special teams player.

Personally, I'd add Alexander and let go of Jarrett Bush or Patrick Lee. I think that's something the Packers can afford to do.

Keep in mind, he's played for some of the worst pass defenses in the NFL (2007 Det-31st, 2008 Det-27th, 2009 Jags-27th). It would be one thing if he were cut by a team with a good pass defense, but the fact he couldn't stick with the Jags says a lot.

From his stats, he looks more like a play in the box SS than a cover guy. He's started 27 games (played in 36) with a total of only 11 passes defended in 3 seasons (but also has 4 interceptions), with 111 solo tackles/143 total in those games.

Stats can be misleading, though--if he was the cream of the crop on a defense that leaked like a sieve, maybe they just didn't throw the ball his way. I haven't followed him close enough to tell the difference...

If he was the cream of the crop, he wouldn't have been cut. He must have some real flaws in his game to go from a 2nd round pick to traded to cut so quickly.
