Damarious Randall was viewed as the best coverage safety in this year’s NFL draft. The Packers, who took Randall in the first round, think he’s good enough in coverage to play cornerback.

DEMOVSKY 's original article.

I guess they think he's good enough to get it done. I'm pretty confident in both these high picks. #ballhawks

Let's just make sure the best guys are on the field. If it is better for the defense as a whole to play him at Safety then do it. If it is at CB then do it.

I think Ted Thompson saw him as a CB from the get go. That's just my gut feeling, since he play safety out of necessity The question I've not seen answered in the safety regard is if that was because he was the 3rd best CB or weren't the other CBs able to play safety. I'm going to assume the latter because otherwise the other 2 CBs should have been drafted ahead of him.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Randall was ASU's best CB. He was moved to safety because he was most adept at being the "quarterback" of the D. This is quite amazing given that you'd figure a guy in the program for 2-4 years would know the defense better over a JUCO transfer.

Randall was drafted as an outside CB [like Rollins], who will be able to move to slot CB or safety if things dont work out outside; either because they failed outside or 2 guys are playing better. Its was like drafting short-arm Bulaga to play Tackle; if it did not work out or 2 guys were better, it was close to a guarantee you'd have a great guard.

Because of his cover skills and ability to learn, in a couple of years, I think Randall will be viewed as the best CB in the draft. And he's bright enough to be solidly contributing by the end of 2015. Rollins with great capacity to learn as well, might not be fast enough to succeed outside. But, Wolf said he's fast enough, so Wolf thinks that 4.57 he ran is not reflective of his true football speed.

One scary thing about Randall I've not seen written about: He played a horrible game against Oregon State, his worst; it just so happens to be the only cold weather game he played in. Damarious said afterward that he's "never felt so cold." He's gonna experience a much much colder game soon, LOL; though he'll have a chance to acclimate living in GB. Hopefully, GB doesnt have an early cold burst like in Minn game and Randall doesnt have time to acclimate.
