Bottom line: He's got raw skill, but if we really want to make it to, and hopefully win the superbowl he's going to need to keep improving A LOT over the next 20 weeks or so. The Packers need him, and while I'm not going to count him out until he's got at LEAST a couple years under his belt, I see this as one of those seasons where you've got to play to win NOW. Driver's aging, Woodson and Al Harris are aging too and you never know when there'll be a season ending injury or a dramatic dropoff. Either we need one workable third stringer this year, or a workable first and second stringer in 2-3 years.

As much as I'm in favor of building your team around potential with a core of a few veterans, at some point you may need to decide to take a big gamble on a big FA signing to get that final piece of the puzzle inplace.

You raise a good point about the future at CB. Harris is old for a CB and we're yet to find out how he'll be when he returns from injury. Woodson may only have two years left in him. People say CBs take at least a couple of years to get up to speed in the NFL. Right now we have Tramon who will have to become a legitimate starter and a bunch of young guys who have looked mediocre at best. Lee is close to being cut, Underwood was overtaken by an UFA and Bush is Bush. Shields has potential, let's hope he can develop quickly. I certainly think we're going to need some corners in next year's Draft so they're ready to succeed Harris and Woodson.

Yeah... he's so talented that he somehow flew under the radar of all 32 teams on draft day. Or maybe no one wanted corners this year... who knows?

"TOPackerFan" wrote:

You don't think him playing only one year of corner had something to do with that? Look, the kid is raw, but he's improved a ton since the beginning of camp and has a chance to be a player, IMO.

"Since69" wrote:

Of course it did. And I'm not saying he has no chance to be a player. He may wind up being a damned good corner - and (naturally) I hope he does. I'm just very uncomfortable with him as our nickel corner.

Whitt Jr. and Capers and McCarthy are all in a much better position to judge him than I am, but I just wish we had another, more experienced option there.

So when we are in nickel we will have a rookie cb and a rookie safety? If that happens I am picking up Kolb for fantasy week 1 lol

So, how did that go for ya?

Clearly not, he got injured in the Super Bowl for fuck sake. He just can't cut it.

In all seriousness...I'd love to see a stat-chart of how many CB's thrust into the NFL after one career season playing the position and have done that well. Seriously, this has got to be one of the all-time stories at the position (unless he blows it next year, of course).

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Probably why he couldn't play too much in the second half.

I thought he had a subpar performance in the SB actually, but other than that he far exceeded all of my expectations. The NFCC game had to be one of the best postseason games by a rookie CB in NFL History, if not the best. Solid all season long. I'm excited to see him develop.

Zero2Cool (7h) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (10h) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (10h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (12h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (12h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (12h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (12h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (12h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (12h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (12h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (12h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (12h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (12h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (12h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (12h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (13h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (14h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (14h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (14h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
