When an undrafted rookie free agent who played defense for one season in college is your third best CB it doesn't say much for your depth at the position.

I wonder if we can utilise the speedy Chillar in our nickel and dime defenses more and keep the CBs on the bench. Maybe even Peprah or Martin get some snaps as the third safety instead of using three CBs?

Or maybe Ted brings someone in.

No, he's not.

He's fast, and he appears to have good instincts. But I wouldn't use the word talented. Not yet.

Having him as our nickel CB scares the hell out of me, since that means he'll be on the field for more than half of our defensive snaps.

I'm really hoping Ted Thompson can swing a last-minute trade like we did for Grant...

Everyone that says Shields is talented sounds like an Al Davis disciple to me. The only talent he has at CB right now is speed, and that's it.

This is not good. The Eagles have loads of good targets, and if Kolb is any good he'll exploit this. I'm guessing Shields might cover Avant?

So you're saying he has no ball skills? Have you seen his interceptions in the preseason? And how about the 90-yard interception return in the family night scrimmage, following blockers and weaving between would-be tacklers? That was just speed?

Look, we all know what it's like to have a CB whose only talent was speed. That was Ahmad Carroll. Shields has already shown more than Carroll ever did.

I don't like the thread title, by the way. Nobody can say that Shields is not ready for prime time. We'll find that out on September 12th. Like a lot of fans, I don't feel great about having such a young, raw guy possibly playing nickel in the season opener, but I'm willing to see how it plays out.
