I don't understand your reasoning. Neither Orton nor Harrison was carrying the ball.

Further evidence.. per the quote of the article.. lol.

After recovering a fumble, which eventually was ruled not a fumble, in Sunday night's game between the Steelers and the Broncos, linebacker James Harrison encountered Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton. Orton, not cognizant of the line between bravery and lunacy, tried to tackle Harrison. So Harrison unloaded on Orton. Hard.

Damn, so much for focusing on the details and missing the big picture. Yes, now I understand the oddity of the play -- the ballcarrier spearing the quarterback.

I can be an idiot sometimes.

I don't see how you can just excuse Harrison for that play. It's absolutely unecessary. In no way would hitting Orton that low benefit the play. It's just Harrison being a totaly idiot, once again.

So if Orton takes his knee out it is okay?

Orton went low.. Harrison followed suit.. I seriously don't see the issue in the hit or that fact that if Orton was jawing on the field that he got popped.. and legally at that.. it wasn't a Sapp hit on Clifton or anything... and he didn't spear him with the helmet.. he went shoulder first.

It's not illegal, but it makes no sense.

There's no benefit to getting your shoulder low there and hit Orton, besides some kind of revenge.

And your intuition when someone's coming at you like that is not to lower your shoulder to the point where you fall over and ram into him. Especially not if you're build like James Harrison.

It's not awful or illegal, but it just has no use.

Neither does diving at ones knees... I really don't see an issue with it.. and it more than likely sent a message that Orton won't forget soon.. honestly we need more of that type of play in the NFL.. hard and legal..

Seriously though.. where is Harrison suppose to go with someone going low on you?

Want to make it clear again

Even tho I think it was a dirty play ( I will explain more detail) I am fine with what he did, I just dont think the NFL will be..

He did not "spear" him in the typical sense..I will give you that...

He appears to be a foot out of bounds knowing he will be down right there, but he lowered his head to hit Orton with it..

Watch it very very slow, Orton turns to expose his back then Harrison lowers his head..Up until that point Harrison is standing up right and very possibly could keep running, or turn it to the inside..

Now if that same play happens midfield I think NOTHING off it..But it just looks like a revenge hit and the league I think has issues with that

Umm, ask William Henderson. ;)

I'm game with the hit. I'd have had a little extra UMPFH coming for the QB personally.
