I have no problem with the hit nor the talk about why he lowered the boom on Orton.. a QB.

It you are going to run your mouth.. cock off, and think the NFL is going to save your ass.. it should be an incorrect assumption.

Once the ball is turned over, he is just another player.. no different than Addai this past week vs the Pack.. if you are going to try an make the tackle... expect hard contact.

This over protecting of the QB of this league are nonsense enough when they are on offense.. don't go crying for them when they are trying to make a play in another facet.

James Harrison says Kyle Orton "got what he had coming"
Posted by Mike Florio on August 30, 2010 1:04 PM ET
When a bank robber gets away with the money, the last thing he should do is call the bank the next day, identify himself, and say, "You're damn right I took the money."

A similar concept applies when a football player apparently gets away with a fairly blatant case of unnecessary roughness.

After recovering a fumble, which eventually was ruled not a fumble, in Sunday night's game between the Steelers and the Broncos, linebacker James Harrison encountered Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton. Orton, not cognizant of the line between bravery and lunacy, tried to tackle Harrison. So Harrison unloaded on Orton. Hard.

"He was running his mouth and getting in the way of the train," Harrison said after the game, per Mike Klis of the Denver Post. "And the train wasn't coming off the track."

If Harrison had said nothing more, we think he'd be fine. It was a rough play, but no one told Orton to get in the way of the train. But then Harrison added a sentence or two that creates the impression that he was trying to injure Orton.

"He was popping off down there the first time they were about to score," Harrison said. "So you run your mouth, expect to get something. Everything's between the lines, so he got what he had coming."

Even though Orton wasn't throwing the ball or otherwise within the protections that apply to quarterbacks, the rules prevent specific instances of unnecessary roughness. Despite the fact that no flag was thrown, Harrison's word could be enough to trigger a letter from the league office informing him that he's getting what he has coming, as in money coming out of his check.

Well....i didn't see the play, so i'm just going on what was said here.
If you tease the bull, i don't think you should cry when you get the horns.

In other words, if you mouth off, and tick off the opposition, don't be surprised if they come gunning for you.

I saw the play and Orton was doing the typical qb tackle, throw his body to the ground except Harrison drove him with his head into Ortons back and shoulder. The sad part about the whole thing was it was actually an incomplete pass, that the refs didn't blow dead until after the hit.

edit: heres the video

Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

thks dh

I would agree that is a dirty play, but YEARS ago thats how it WAS played

Should he be fined? IMO no, but I bet the league will have a different opinion

I don't see anything objectionable about that hit. They both lowered their bodies at the same time, and Orton was on the ground, practically in the fetal position, when the collision occurred. If that was a deliberate hit on Harrison's part, he has some amazingly quick thought processes. It looks to me like he was talking up the play after the fact.

A guy with the ball trying to make a return that is falling down and going out of bounds wouldnt try to spear another guy..Harrison didnt lower his head to spear him UNTIL he saw Orton turn and expose his back

To me it looked like Orton was trying to do one of those tackles where he takes out a guys knees...Normally one would think the runner is going to JUMP over that type of tackle, not lower his head and spear him..

But again...I wouldnt fine him because that is how the game should be played...

The way the NFL is now they prob will fine him specially after the comments he made, which tell me that his intentions were to spear him

That isn't a dirty hit.. Orton went low.. Harrison is going out of bounds and made sure he got his moneys worth.. but it could be said he was trying to protect his lower extremities as well.. not to mention that if AP or a running back makes that hit.. it was applauded.

This Mickey Mouse bullshit about a QB being the sacred... they throw their pads on the same way.. play or get out of the way. 😉

beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
