I've just read the Indy match report by the Journal Sentinel's Bob McGinn. Not only does McGinn get an indepth interview with Ted Thompson every year he seems to get quotes from him on a regular basis for general articles like this. Other beat reporters quote Thompson when he does press briefings but they don't seem to regularly get exclusive quotes like McGinn.

I thought this comment was interesting:

Zombo better make this team...and Justin Harrell better not. From what I saw Harrell looks like he's moving in slow motion compared to everyone else. Never got near the ball, no tackles, barely looked like he was trying. For a guy trying to save his career, he sure doesn't appear to be putting in maximum effort. GET RID OF HIM TEDDY! There are too many talented young players trying to make this team that will fill that roster spot FAR more productively.

^^ You read the comments on a jsonline article? Props to you, I can't get through them.

Agree with that though, Harrell is probably on his way out. It's sad.

I found this commit interesting...

What is Thompson's level of concern with a unit that simply hasn't stopped anyone, from Cleveland to Seattle to Indianapolis?

He does remember that Capers often times only brought 3 man rushes against Cleveland and Seattle right? and understands that most likely won't be happening during the season? and that Capers was just making harder for his guys to see how hard they could and would work... right?

Congratulations, you are one of the few people who understand preseason.

Harrell did seem to get knocked on his arse a fair bit. But I didn't think he was awful. However it's now onto the final game of preseason and I'm not sure he's strectched the gap on any of the other guys we have (Wynn, Talley, Toribio). Wonder why they haven't been giving C.J Wilson more reps??

Actually, I think most of the quotes from Thompson that he gets seem to come when Thompson is in the locker room after a game, and even then Thompson does not give out much. It is not like he has special access to him, or anything. In the rush to produce Insider articles within a couple of hours after the game has ended, most times quotes are thrown in to support premises that would be pretty obvious to anyone who watched the game.

I personally think he uses the quotes because they give him material at a time when it's difficult to get material to use for game stories.

As for the interviews, you have to give McGinn credit for being blunt. Those interviews might also be the only time Ted answers some questions pretty bluntly.

This year's interview featured a 'why did you hire Ari Fisher, and are you paranoid' question from McGinn, to which Ted replied with a "First of all, I didn't hire anybody. Secondly, I am not paranoid. I don't know where you are getting that." reply. I'd love to have seen a video of Ted's response, because I sensed a show of irritation from Ted that you do not get in his interviews.

That is a fair point; I believe in one of the recent articles in the JS Coach Trgovac said Wilson had the ability to play at the NFL level.

I actually think McGinn may have greater access, for whatever reason. I haven't seen the quotes in McGinn's article elsewhere. If Ted Thompson is standing around in the locker room surely its not just McGinn who is standing there interviewing him. Also, McGinn is the one who gets a big in depth interview every year. That is special access right there.
