Brett said Javon was the only receiver he'd seen that he knew all he had to do was get the ball in his area and Brett said he knew Javon would come down with it.

This might not be ground breaking news, but I don't think Brett liked Sterling much at all. Even though he had massive tunnel vision early in his career and threw it to Sharpe even if he was doubled.

Which is weird because Sharpe was a better all around receiver than Javon. Hey, I like Javon too, but he was no Sterling Sharpe. He didn't break tackles like Sharpe nor run flawless routes. He was a heck of a jumper though, which was a bad thing because Favre threw too many of those jump balls and we saw what happened in '04-'06 until MM straightened him out.

Maybe Sharpe was too much of a prima donna for Favre and Favre wanted to be the only prima donna in the room? I'm guessing here. Don't know why they didn't get along. Heck, anyone could have completed passes to Sterling Sharpe, as his career showed.

Anthony Dilweg and Mike Tomczak are two off the top of my head who had troubles completing balls to Sharpe. :)

Brett didn't say Javon was the best WR he's had, he was saying Javon was the best at going up and getting the ball. That all he had to do was get it in Javon's area and he knew it would be caught.

One of my favorite games with Sharpe was the one against the Steelers where he made Rod Woodson his biotch. hah

If I were a second-tier or third-tier receiver (the Alvin Harper and Bill Schroeder examples are great, btw), I would love to play a few years with Rodgers. It would almost guarantee me one big contract that I wouldn't get otherwise.

Because, yes, I think Rodgers is that good.

He can't make someone Randy Moss who isn't. But he is good enough that before he's done he'll make some people look better than they really are.

The nice thing is that it doesn't matter much for the Packers if one or more of the current receivers appears really good because of Rodgers making them look really good or because they themselves really are really good. It only matters to those who might be looking to sign them to their *next* contract. The Packers are in like Flint regardless.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There's not a QB in the league right now I'd trade Rodgers for.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Me neither Wade, and that even includes welcoming back my favorite player.

Zero - Ah, thanks for the clarification. Although from what I've seen, Brett's wrong. It's a tie. Both of them were able to grab balls that should have been picked off.

Brett said that about Walker around the same time he said that he was surrounded by more talent than ever before in his career. And I think that was the year they went 4-12. He was not beyond using a little hyperbole once in awhile.

It was after the '03 season where Javon only started a few games but nearly had double digit TD's. Brett was questioned about Javon being the real thing or not or something to that effect.

2005, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't that the year we only had a handful of original offensive players play 16 games? And the year we lost Javon to injury? And the year we lost Ahman to injury? And that we lost 8 games by 7 points or less?

I'm thinking if we had our star running back who doubled as a receiving threat and our up and coming star WR playing ... we may have squeaked out a few more wins there.

Talent doesn't mean squat if it's on the sidelines with bandaids. lol

You're right, the injuries killed us that year (not least of all Walker himself). I still think Brett's comment was a bit of a stretch, considering that the previous season had ended so badly (losing at home to the Vikings in the playoffs), but we'll never know what might have been.
