I think this race for the punting job is seriously tied or extremely close to it.

Usually when coaches say two players are tied (like Mike McCarthy said with these 2 punters) I think BS, they're just trying to avoid answering the question for now. But in this case I think it's seriously turn.

Masthay has a slight edge in distances, hang time and holding but Bryan isn't bad at any of those and isn't far behind.

Bryan has a slight edge in the control and get off time but Masthay isn't bad at any of those and isn't far behind.

The only place I've seen a real edge of one over the other is kickoff where Masthay has shown he could take over kickoffs with out a problem if needed to. But that's the kickers job not the punters but still Masthay is showing his versatility which may give him the overall edge.

Bryan of course has the better story, but I'm not sure that will factor in other than fan support.

Jon Ryan was cut for a slow kick time, edge Bryan?

Side Note: I actually met Ryan today at Seahawks TC and thanked him for Juking 11 Vikings at once. (07 @ metrodome i believe)

2:50, yes my friends we used to have a real punter.

Can we keep two punters and finally cut jarret bush? :thumbleft: :thumbright: Or I guess we could keep only one punter and allow bush to be only a special teams player and nothing else no matter what.

I don't care for either punter we have now, but I did notice the lefty was quicker getting the ball off his foot than the righty.

Jon Ryan was let go because of his inconsistencies. You never knew if he was going to boom it 60 yards or 10 yards. And somehow the former special teams coach convinced the staff Frost was more consistent.

whatever happened to B J Sander?

Personally, I'd like to see an Aussie, but that's partly because I'm pining for the old days of ESPN when they showed Aussie football and Sportscenter was actually worth watching.

No. Jarrett Bush makes the roster. I got $20 riding on it.

Even their results for the first game are similar.
Masthay's stats are a little worse because of the touchback. (They almost kept it out of the endzone.) But he also had one inside the 20 which bodes well for him.
Bryan had the nice hang time for the fair catch on one of his kicks and another was downed with no return.

I guess they will go at least one more week before anything is decided. :thumbleft:
