I'm laughing at the "it's just pre-season" mentality.

Last year, in a 'guess Rodgers numbers' thread, I used his pre-season stats and multiplied them to get in the vicinity of 400 pass attempts, and the numbers that resulted were actually a pretty close indicator of the output he had during the season.

Also, I recall an article last year about our defense, which expressed concern in the amount of yards per pass play it was giving up. That article noted that had our defense not been producing turnovers at an outstanding rate, we'd be facing a defence that could not stop much. Well, in the regular season... we produced a boatload of turnovers and struggled mightily (at times) with our pass defence.

Pre-season, while it is not the be all and end all, does give you a glimpse into the current state of affairs regarding "your" team.

One huge concern is the special teams. I mean we have McCarthy come out and say we will be better. We have extended periods dedicated to improving special teams. Heck, we have McCarthy himself getting involved with the Special Teams alongside Slocum.

And then they perform like that. If you aren't nervous after last night considering out ST history, you've got some calm to you.

The defense performance... is also concerning. I mean, Favre / Rothlesberger / Warner you could at least try to excuse are performances against them (two were vets who had "seen it all" in terms of defence, and the other basically practices against our defence because the Steelers ran something similar to it too). But Delhomme? I mean, did anyone even watch him a bit last year? He was like a human jugs machine throwing balls at defensive players. And he shreds our defense? :-? Not saying we need to panic, but it's hard to feel comfortable after having watched him do what he did.

Ryan Grant has been our primary ballcarrier for two and a half years, and then he becomes the subject of major criticism after a preseason game in which he carries the ball three times. Funny.

oh, dude...totally true. 'cuz anybody criticizing Grant is only basing their criticism off this single preseason game. for totes!

I think people who hate Ryan Grant would be better off starting their very own Ryan Grant hate thread rather than bringing their agenda to the postgame thread, considering how little Grant actually played in the game.

whoa buddy! serious much? this is like...uh...football, 'member? it's a game we watch, discuss, take the piss...for FUN, mmkay? mmkay. 😉

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

Well fair enough, I guess. Everyone has their own idea of fun. Some people have fun talking shit about players on their own team. That's not my idea of fun. I just like to talk about the game. Maybe I'm in the minority here. I don't think comments like "Grant: fuck you" and "Brandon Jackson: fuck you" are fun or funny or accomplish anything. But that's just my opinion.

haha what are you trying to one up me or something? Did I say anything about giving Grant a break on that fumble because it wasn't a rushing attepmt? You were trying to call me out on my comment about Grant not having a fumble last year rushing the ball and you failed. No need to start bringing up all that useless information about when it happened.

"Brandon494" wrote:

You said "not fumbling once last season running the ball". I simply pointed out the fact that he did fumble, yes it was receiving, but fact of the matter is ... a fumble receiving is the same as a fumble rushing. I did fail, just as you failed to mention it was a receiving fumble because somehow that wasn't important??? lol

I didn't mention it because to me, a fumble receiving, is the same as a fumble rushing.

Why didn't you mention he had a fumble, albeit receiving? Do you feel a receiving fumble is different than a rushing fumble? Did you feel that fact would taint your motive of implying Grant was perfect last season not fumbling?

I thought Justin Harrell was okay. I didn't see anything over the top good or bad.

Aaron Rodgers looked really good. He scares me. I think MVP is his, but I'm basing that off his last two seasons, not his game against the Browns.

I thought Brandon Jackson looked different, more agile maybe or quicker? I don't know, he just looked different to me. Wishful thinking?

The only CB I liked was Underwood. Shields let me down. I admit, I bit on the hype on the kid. 😞

Derrick Martin and Nick Collins I thought did well.

I didn't pay much attention to them, but I wasn't impressed with the Punters.

When are we going to field a good damn special teams? We can't seem to tackle on returns or when we're returning.

I agree there. Grant and Jackson are talented. Not top ten in the NFL. Many teams would like to have reliable backs like them. I don't think they or anyone really deserves a f bomb on the roster. Not Bush, Not Crosby, Not Harrell ... we have a good team, but not every player can be "special".

No worries from my end. Typical first pre-season game. Some of our boys are injured on 'D', so that'll get better by the season start. Rodgers looked good...accurate. Special teams OK...so hard to tell how that will be by the season start. So, many guys trying to make the team playing on special teams.

Overall, I'd give the first game a B...some work to do.

I just remember that the offensive line was kick ass last preseason and Barbre looked pretty good. That itself is enough to tell me preseason doesn't really mean much.

Holy crap, this thread went south.

I don't think anyone said "F Ryan Grant, Ryan Grant blows"(Greg C.) Some people should stop over reacting, read the title of thread and REALIZE that everyone is going to have a difference in opinion on certain things.

Brandon494-- Tsk, tsk...insulting members. Just to clarify, any fumble is a bad fumble, regardless of how it happens. Ryan Grant's 1 fumble on 3 carries is a negative, no matter what way you see it.

Fumble=negative...thats football. I stand by putting Grant on the negative portion on my list of what I watched.
