Capers said he was going to run a plain base 3-4 with little blitzing to see what everyone could do and it wasn't very exciting...

No one on the defense seemed to play amazingly but there were some nice plays.

Harrell may or may not be lazy in practice but the kid can play and shouldn't have a problem making this team as long as he keeps he's head and heart in the right places and stays healthy.

Zombo did a nice job of backing the back-up RT into QB McCoy's face (which was the reason for the bad throw on Martin's INT). I don't know if that RT is any good or not but if he keeps that up and he could win one of the last spots. (which I was thinking he was outside the bubble coming into this game)

I'm still worried about the 3rd CB and 3rd S... I'm not sure they're good enough to be a nickel yet.... they're close but not there. Then again Williams wasn't ready ether when he first got it and slowly stepped up year after year.

I liked what I saw from Hall and Kuhn but Johnson needs play better.

I think it's going to be hard to choose who to cut at TE. I say keep 4 and trade the other one. Or maybe tell teams we're keeping Finley and the rest are possible to get at the right price and take the highest thing you can get for one and keep the rest.

I'm still worried about the running game or lack there of... and lack of holes by the OL. But Porter did step up but I'm not sure he'll ever be a #1 but he could become a very good back-up, change of pace guy.

Rodgers = AMAZING

Packers may not have a top 5 WR but they easily have a top 5 WR group... probably top 3

Punting was very good until later in the game (which Mike McCarthy wasn't happen it dropped off).

Bush made some good ST plays. I'm thinking the Packers keep 6 CBs. And it might be a hard choice if/when Harris comes back... as I think Bush would help more for right now in this season, and Shields could potentially be a star ST and a very good back-up CB. In battles like this in the past the coaches have usually gone with who's better now, and try to get the potential player to the PS. But they did cut Tracy White for a potential LBer when the dolphins tried to grab him off the Packers PS. So maybe they would risk it with sheilds? Who knows...

I find it funny how little some of you know about football....

Ryan Grant fumbles one time in the first preseason game after not fumbling once last season running the ball and now you guys want a rookie to start over him. ::roll:

Grant may not be a big play RB but he is durable and consistent. Lets also not forget we don't have the best run blocking O-line in the league opening up holes for these guys. Also Im not a big B Jackson fan but he is by far the best pass blocking RB we have. Lumpkin is nothing special but I do like Porter and think he'll win the #3 RB spot. I also had high hopes for Sparks, sucks he never got a chance because of his injury.

1. Twinkie just likes to bitch. His comments are not necessarily reflective of how he actually feels.

2. You could have left off the part about football knowledge, etc.

3. The response to Twinkie beat the living hell out of the initial comment, imo

4. I wouldn't be surprised if Twinkie doesn't feel the exact same way as you do.

5. Actually, most everyone here likes to bitch, lol

Also, speaking on football knowledge, Grant fumbled once last year and it was lost. Therefore, your comment is incorrect. Is that irony?

All being a dick aside, we don't expect Ryan to be the sexy runner, breaking off a 50 plus yarder every game, or taking a screen pass 80 yards, or running through three potential blockers.... we don't expect that. We do expect him to hold onto the ball, as he's proven very stout at doing and get 4 or 5 fives a carry.

The fumble he had against the Browns, was not his fault. It was an excellent hit on the ball. Sure, he could have protected a little better, but its not as if Grant was careless and that's why the ball was knocked out.

Brandon, hopefully you'll post more, but without the attempts at insulting the members are not scared to share their thoughts. 🙂

The Browns were at least 4-5, maybe 4-6, on throws towards Williams. I did not like that at all, those first two series he got picked on a bunch. I liked Underwood's play minus him getting torched one time. I really think the tackling drills this year have helped. See lots of the young kids wrapping up and driving through the runner. Liking it.

Like Foster said, Twinkie overreacts a little or just totally hates Grant. We have a couple of members like that. Tromadz comes to mind. Some people just don't like Grant's style. He doesn't fumble, but he doesn't do anything spectacular either. He's like the VW of running backs. Solid, dependable, but not flashy.

I'm a huge Quinn Porter fan and I liked what I saw in this game when he got the chance to actually carry or catch the ball, but I'm not calling for him to start over Grant. Or Jackson for that matter. I would love for him to make the team as the 3rd string RB. Which might result in 2nd string, as Jackson has a tendency to get hurt sooner or later.

Lastly, if there's one position where a rookie could take over for a veteran, it's at the RB position. Just look at all these guys coming into the league the last few years. There's not that much of an adjustment period as there is with WR, DT, DE etc. Steve Slaton, Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Knowshon Moreno, LDT etc. Even Ryan Grant was as close to a rookie as you can get without actually being one. Most were high draft picks, but they did make more of an impact than most players on other positions.

I'm not expecting Quinn Porter to take over the starting spot, but if he actually gets a chance, he could very well be our Tashard Choice this year.

With all the chippy behavior amongst the members here and in the Harrell thread.. we very well might have more intensity than the Packers defense last night..

Positives:
Rodgers to *anyone* was basically unstoppable. Rodgers had a nice, quick release also.

Browns blitzed a lot, our offensive line excelled at picking up the blitz

Bulaga>Colledge

Anyone notice Poppinga constantly being in the backfield with pressure? I think he is drinking some of Matthews muscle milk. He also had a nice pass breakup

Burnett did a great job in everything for his 1st time playing.

I had to put this here: John Kuhn being an absolute beastly fullback and fighting for that touchdown. I was pumped up after seeing that.

Negatives:
Ryan Grant fumbled first touch.

Though we ran a vanilla defense, our dbs were torched by Jake Delhomme.

Hawk still getting burned on pass protection.

Sam Shields being God awful in the punt/kick return game (not worried...yet)

Overall, the show Rodgers and Co. put on in the 1st was nice to see and I am excited to see what they can do during the season.
