GREEN BAY Mark Chmura and Jermichael Finley probably need to talk.
Four days after Chmura, the Packers Hall of Fame tight end and three-time Pro Bowl selection, called Finley a moron during his weekly radio show, Finley, the teams current starting tight end, fired back Thursday by saying Chmuras comments on his intelligence were rooted in jealousy.
Chmura, who was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame last month, was talking about Finley shouting "Super Bowl" and "Dallas, Texas" during a televised interview at the end of the teams annual Family Night Scrimmage on Saturday night. Super Bowl XLV will be held in suburban Dallas in February.
"He is a great player, but he is a moron," Chmura said on The Miller Lite Football Show, which airs on 540 ESPN in Milwaukee and 100.5 FM ESPN in Madison, as well as on ESPNMilwaukee.com and ESPNMadison.com.
Chmura later gave Finley some unsolicited free advice: Shut your mouth ... You're a heck of a player but be quiet.
Finley learned of Chmuras comments when ProFootballTalk.com posted an item about them earlier this week.
"That's just one of those jealousy things, I guess," Finley said Thursday. "I'm not trying to call him out or nothing. But that's how I see it."
Finley said he has never met Chmura, who played for the Packers from 1993 through 99 and was part of the Packers' last Super Bowl-winning team in 1996.
Never seen him. If he walked in this locker room, I wouldnt know who he was, Finley said. I think he thought they stopped inventing the Super Bowl when they won it in '96, so he doesn't want to see that from my standpoint.
Asked if hed like to meet Chmura, Finley replied, I would love to meet him. I would love that, (to) be in his face right now.
