Everyone knows this is brutal weather to be practicing football in pads. If you're a coach, it's also an ideal opportunity to see how players respond when pushed well beyond their comfort zone. Once again, DE Justin Harrell flunked the test. By now, his routine has become commonplace. Take a rep, slow jog or walk behind the line, remove helmet, take a knee. In the early stages of practice, position coach Mike Trgovac had to stop a drill in which Harrell's effort seemed to be the issue. Twenty to 30 years ago, that happened all the time because players used camp to play their way into shape. Today, you never see it. Everyone reports ready to go. Either Harrell isn't in shape, he can't handle the heat or he just won't drive himself. His terrible body language spoke volumes. The contrast in intensity between Harrell and rookie Mike Neal is startling.

Not so good. We could really use Harrell for rotation.

It wasn't that long ago I was reading an article where the man himself said this was it, a 'make or break' season for him... so either he's hurting and doesn't want to push himself or he's very much out of football shape.

The dude has been a worthless bum since he was draft. Cut the ties and be done with his sorry @$$.

The stifling heat? WTF ! I have watched 16-17 old kids in full pads every afternoon( 97-98 with heat index of 108) for a week and a half...they don't pitch a fit and fall out so the big boys in Packers Camp can grow a pair and learn how to hydrate and stretch.

Coming off a back injury that kept him out all of last year, I'm willing to cut him some slack on conditioning. Back injuries are nasty things, and the main thing I'm worried about is if his back starts acting up again.

With Jolly out for the year, we could really use Harrell, so I'm going to continue to root for him.

When Harrell was drafted, we all heard how he had played in a big game in spite of a major injury. He was supposed to be a real football player. This doesn't sound like the same guy. Pretty disappointing. I hope Harrell reads this article.

Maybe this is because I'm a fat guy who struggles in the heat, but this doesn't look like a man who is particularly bothered by the heat.

It's not particularly good posture, but to me it looks like either:

1. He's real intent on what the other players are doing, perhaps thinking about leverage or whatever. (optimistic view)
OR
2. He's bored. (pessimistic view).

IMO, "dogging it because of the heat" as a possibility is a distant third.

I'm inclined to go with 1: Look carefully at the eyes. He seems pretty intent on what's happening in front of him. The odd tilt of his body may be incident to him leaning sideways to get a better view. His mouth is closed. He doesn't look like he's panting or otherwise struggling with the heat. He doesn't appear to be particularly sweaty. His hands aren't on his waist. Sure, he's got a roll around his waist, but that's not unusual for linemen after all; and it isn't a Grady Jackson sort of roll.

The "routine has become commonplace" implication definitely bothers me, but the photo to me doesn't match the claim. In fact, may suggest the opposite when it comes to JH's attention.

Of course, I've never been as impressed by McGinn as others (and he himself) seems to be. So that bias may be entering into things.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Justin's head is tilted because he thinks he found an attractive woman in Green Bay. Sorry Justin, move along.

I was intrigued by some of the things I've heard about Justin. This kind of wipes that away.

Oh well. I've been reading that this Mike Neal guy is gonna make us forget Jolly is gone for the year.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season

wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.

dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
