I've recommended PH to three people. To my knowledge none have joined yet (unless they are lurking).
Part of my problem in not recommending the place is that I don't really hang out anywhere else in Packer fandom anymore. Since Foster lured me away, I've found myself visiting that place less and less often. Not because of anything against them, but I would just rather come here, and I don't have time to be a regular at more than one place at a time.
And part, if truth be told, because even though I'm a relative newbie, I'd like to see the place stay relatively small. To me, PH reflects what a "small town" or "neighborhood" can offer that cities and megalopolises can't match, but without most of the negatives that small towns tend to have. People here are friendly, but not insular. They are smart and diverse, rather than cliquish and tradition-bound. They listen, not just pontificate. They tolerate even weirdos (see the various Viking/Bear fans) and boring academic types (see yours truly).
One of the things I like about this place is how it welcomes strangers. (Thanks, again, Foster, for asking Kevin to take a chance on me; thanks, again, Kevin, for taking that chance and letting me join; and, again, thanks to everyone for putting up with me!) I don't want this to be a clique of "our club, not anyone else's.
But I'd rather it build the way a neighborhood bar builds its clientele. One recommendation and one customer at a time.
