I wouldn't call the Saints a dirty team. I haven't seen them play enough to tell. IMO they did have a "dirty strategy" for the playoff game against Minnesota. There were too many low hits/borderline late hits, plus their DC was unapologetic. I'm not a Viking fan, but it looked to me like part of their strategy was to take #4 out.

And much as I hate the Vikings, that to me is not the way the game is supposed to be played.

If they had been playing against anyone other than Peyton Manning, I probably would have rooted for the Colts in the Super Bowl. Instead, I decided to do something else that evening and paid more attention to Super Bowl commercials than to the game itself.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

If all these texts happened (and I don't understand why anyone cares), why doesn't one of these reporters look at one and post what it said? I'm sure Favre didn't send personal messages to every single person, they were likely a mass message, so its not like the person is going to be "outted".

I am so confused about this whole thing. On the first day, the story got reported, Favre did not say anything. So if these players did receive these texts, why wouldn't the ones that did, just say something? Why would Longwell, Allen, Hutchinson, Peterson, etc. all lie.

And what is Favre's motivation for lying, or what is Longwell's motivation for lying. I am dumbfounded about just how much the media and the public cares about Favre. Texts that apprently happened but no one saw then caused ESPN to have a Favre special and caused NFL network to have a Favre special, every news outlet in North America picking it up and columnists poking at Favre for being selfish, etc. ALL from texts that these reporters havn't even seen?!

I think ... Brett did send the messages and the Vikings higher ups went crazy go nuts trying to change Brett's mind. Meanwhile, the players didn't know how to respond publicly. Damn well knowing if they said he's retiring, it might trip him into retiring and causing a spanking from the coaching staff.

He didn't expect the outpouring???
Come on....does ANYONE believe that?
Each time he retired, you'd think the world was coming to an end! He got all the "sports" talking heads fawning over him, front page on all the magazines. Heck, magazines just about HIM.
He knows what he's doing.
Getting a big fat raise, and all the publicity he could want.
he's NOT stupid.

Great, this means we'll have a 2nd teary eyed retirement speech.

"MassPackersFan" wrote:

Nope. He'll sit out the first four weeks and then come in. I'm calling it now, which means he'll probably retire because Favre is the most unpredictable athlete of all time.

Seriously, I think that's the best thing for everyone involved. Sit him and let him heal. Why would you want Favre to go up against a dirty team like New Orleans? Yes, I said dirty. Who cares if you lose a road game against the defending champs. You get Favre back after a 1-2 start and there is no reason why you can't go 10-3 the rest of the way. That gets you in the playoffs for a run.

The biggest thing here is whether or not Favre's ankle responds even in that time span and whether or not his ego will let him miss a couple of games.

Calling the Saints a dirty team is like calling that man in your signature a bigot. It may be technically true because you can point to a few instances, but they're/he's good enough that it doesn't matter.

I am getting so sick of all these reports. For some reason with Favre, any shred of journalistic pride is thrown out. I'm pretty sure this entire Text-gate thing started from a TWEET by some Minnesota journalist. Remember the "schism"? Remember Ed Werder's reports last year? Its stupid. These reporters publish based on hearsay, then cover their bums. "Yes, schism but if they win, the players will be fine". What?

That explanation still doesn't answer my question. Favre started texting all these teammates on Monday night. The only way this all makes sense is if the Vikings organization figured out who Favre texted and then called them up immediately and banned them from talking about a freakin TEXT message. In this day and age, not ONE teammate that received the text told the truth (Shaincoe said he did not receive the text). All of those guys lied? For what?

I don't even care either way but why does anyone care? Lets say Favre did text all these people and say "I'm retired" on Monday night, then all these players lied on Tuesday and then Favre lied about sending the text on Wednesday, etc. - WHY do we care? All that matters is, is he under center against the Packers? If not, we have a better chance of winning.

But why so much fuss about these apparent texts? If Jay Glazer has seen them, why doesn't he just post what they said, I don't get how that reveals the source.

We're talking about "texts" y'all. This really was worth an ESPN Favre Special, an NFL Network Favre Special, every columnist in the country reacting, every news outlet publishing an article, etc? Based on a TWEET and anonymous sources "inside the Vikings organization"?! Is this what journalism has reached?

Maybe its all true and Favre also sent weird pictures to the Jets cheerleader but shouldn't journalists have more proof in order to go so NUTS. On Tuesday, it was like Favre had filed his retirement papers and was eligible for the Hall of Fame. But on Wednesday morning he's working at the High School and rehabbing his ankle.

Lets say Favre comes out and says I'm retired, then lets get excited and go nuts (and even then, why believe him with his history). But until then, why is everyone chasing around a story based on a Tweet and Text Messages.

Either the Vikings are like the CIA and able to cover up stories very well or this whole thing is blown out of proportion. May be he just texted teammates and said he's leaning toward retirement. Etiher way, WHO CARES UNTIL HE OR THE VIKINGS SAY SOMETHING.
