As I said before Shut the hell up and play football and do what is asked of you. In my opinion he is dropping on my list of top TEs.

Ahahah, that was funny. Really. You're dropping him on your TE list because he's talking. He's caused no schism, no altercations, and has been healthy and doing work all off-season. But you drop him because he isn't allowed to speak his own mind. Come on.

Finley can talk when he makes it up to the likes of a Tony G, Antonio Gates, Jason Whitten they do everything that is asked of them and are good at it.
As was stated he isn't very good at blocking and way it sounds he isn't that interested in becoming very good.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Funny you should list Tony G. He has never been a good blocker, in fact I'd say Finley is better than him at blocking.

I agree, he needs to prove himself more before starting to talk sh-t continuously. But it's no reason to think any less of him. If he wants to talk, let him talk. If he doesn't back his smack up during the season, then we can go hang him or something. But as of now, his talking hasn't hurt anyone or anything.

Facts are facts. If the coaches say "your going to block more" Your going to block more, so you better like it.

The thing I don't like is the comment where he says the only thing he really worked on during the offseason is receiving out of the two point stance. You'd think he would work on blocking, but nope only receiving.

If Finley comes out with his own clothing line, then we need to worry.

Still don't like this.

The talent is there, but there's a lot of maturing left to go.

Not that any of this is a surprise. This has been the knock on Finley long before he got GB.

We haven't had a pass catching tight end like this since Jackie Harris, unless you count Keith Jackson, but he was old. Why risk the guy to injury blocking when you have Lee and Havnor to do that? This guy cannot be defended one on one, and with the rest of the arsenal we have, D-coordinators are going to have nightmares gameplanning.

If Finley doesn't want to block all the time, I really don't blame him. Did anyone ever make Deion tackle?

Because if Finley always is a receiver, and Lee and Havner are blockers, the defense always knows what's coming.

Exactly. And this was obvious last year, as well. As long as he isn't going to block, Lee should remain the starter.

When you want to have a balanced attack like McCarthy wants, Finley is something like a 3rd down back at the moment. Great pass catcher, but no complete player.

Well, good news from an offensive standpoint, then. I hadn't heared anything about his blocking lately, but he has some upper body strength, you can see that much when you watch him make one of those chip blocks.

Clay struggling doesn't surprise me that much, although I've seen some tweets of him roaming around in the backfield, as well. We'll see how he does when the games actually start.

Perhaps. I mean, if people are saying Finley is unable to block, or won't block, then I certainly think those who say it are getting ahead of themselves. However, this team wants and needs complete players. I think what people are reacting to here is that Finley doesn't seem as committed to the blocking aspect of being a complete TE. He doesn't seem as committed to being a good blocker as he is to being a good receiver. And I know he is primarily a receiving TE, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't concentrate on blocking. For instance, Adrian Peterson is, in my opinion, the best RB in the league. But there are many RBs who are better at receiving and blitz pickup than he is. He recognizes this, so he has taken it upon himself to elevate his skills in blitz pickup and receiving, so he can become a more complete player. Even the best players recognize they have strengths and weaknesses in their game. The truly great players play to their strengths and are constantly working to improve their weaker areas. I think Finley has the tools to become an all-time great TE. I want him to keep playing up his strength areas but always be improving those weaker areas as well. I wish in this article he'd be telling us how hard he'd worked in the offseason to improve his blocking skills so that he could be an every down player, and give the defense fits, no matter what the play-call situation is.

Smoke and mirrors.

Keep in mind that a good percentage of TEs catches in general are when "they" thought he was going to stay in and block. Of course, don't tell anyone. So don't go telling Brad Childress our secrets, Formo.
