Ha! Favre should claim endorsement dollars for all the advertising spots they're selling covering his little soap opera. If he was smart, he'd trademark phrases like "FavreWatch."

A figure of $20 million borders not on the absurd but on the sublime. We're talking MLB or NBA money here. If we can believe the rumors, the Vikings are mortgaging their (presumably salary-capped) future for one year. Or should we say they're gambling with our team's dollars for a one-year stab at glory?

Revenue-sharing-funds-dipping sons of bitches.

If your them, why wouldn't you, the rules let you. Favre jersey sales, Favre tv ratings for games, them trying to get a city to fund a new stadium, etc. He's worth it. I don't know why people hate on the Jets for getting Favre, it worked perfect for them for their PSL plans, it got an otherwise useless franchise hyped up for no reason. Whatever they pay him, he's worth it to them. If he doesn't play this year, I believe they will lose more than $7 million compared to last year.

Overall, it still surpises me how greedy players are though. How much money has Favre made in his career? I guess I would do the same when someone is offering it to you but still, its nuts. But I don't blame the Vikings for trying.

If your them

If my what?

Of course it makes sense for them, assuming the forthcoming CBA has a grandfather clause, and as you point out, it's entirely within the rules.

But it still rankles for me as a fan of a team that has been fiscally responsible and only managed to eke out a $5 million profit on revenue of somewhere near $258 million in the 2009-10 fiscal year. (Compare that to the $20.1 million profit they turned the previous fiscal year).

Most of my Vikings friends (and there are a LOT, as I have lived my whole life in Vikings territory) have generally been of the opinion that, "seriously? He's retiring now? Yeah right, he's coming back." They're being surprisingly level-headed about this... which pisses me right off! lol

"bozz_2006" wrote:

Look, even before the Mariucci information last night, all day i was like, yea right. I call BS. Childress knows nothing, Favre said nothing, nothing confirmed, anonymous sources. Slow rating week for ESPN, that's all.

Also, I cant think of too many more players more deserving of a raise after last season than Favre. It's his money, if he can get it, so be it. Are we to feel bad for the billionaire owner who will have to fork over a few extra bucks to make his team relevant once again? He stands to make a whole lot more money with Brett than without him this year.

20 million is a ton of money, take the money and play brett

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

I agree. We all pretty much know he's going to be on the field this year, that's a no brainer.

If someone wanted to pay me 20 million to kick my ass for 60 minutes playing football 16 times a year, I'll sign that contract faster than Rosie O'Donnell can make a twinkie disappear.

If I'm Adrian Peterson's agent, I hold out right now.

Unbelievable how crap the sports media is these days. Remember Schefter's "schism". I cannot believe the amount of stories out there with no actual source or word from Favre or the Vikings. This sums up how garbage and bias the media is:

Selfish Favre emerges again

Will he edit it again today?

If this whole money thing ends up being false and Favre plays for $13 million, will it matter? No, of course not, just like the Schism and all this other stuff, its the luxery of being a member of the sports media these days.

As many have said, nothing came from Brett that we heard, so it's all hearsay. What we are enjoying is the circus that does not center in Green Bay, WI this time around. :)

And as I've said many times before, I don't like how the media jumps the gun on things. On the radio. Marcellis Wiley? kept saying Brett retired. I thought, wha?? no he didn't. Why say that stuff? Does it make him look bad when Brett shows up? No, it makes Brett look even MORE indecisive than he already is. No one will remember Wiley saying Brett retired August 3rd, 2010. They'll just remember they heard a guy on the radio state Brett retired, again.

I still think it's funny ... because it doesn't directly involve the Packers. 🙂
