Like Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, Packers safety Atari Bigby skipped the entire offseason program. (Unlike Haynesworth, Bigby wasn't under contract.)

Like Haynesworth, Bigby's attempt to pass a conditioning test has resulted in an injury. (Unlike Haynesworth, Bigby passed.)

Bigby claims that he reported for camp in shape and with no ankle problems. The team, per Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, is attempting to determine the specific injury Bigby has suffered.

"It wasn't an issue, not what it is now," Bigby said. "But I worked out in the offseason, I got in shape, I came back in shape so, no, it wasn't something that bothered me in the offseason. So I think it's one of those, it just flared up. . . . I guess twisted it a certain way that it shouldn't have been twisted."

Bigby recently signed a one-year, $1.759 million tender offer. He is hoping for a long-term contract. But this definitely isn't the way to get one.

Does this mean the injury was not a reason for his not signing his tender dealio?

I do not like the situation with Bigby. Having Rottenhaus as an agent only amplifies it.

Despite all the contract crap with Bigby and the Packers, listening to Burnett's interview from yesterday it sounds like Bigby is being a great team player and trying to help Burnett as much as he can.

Ah, so it sounds like he injured the ankle DURING the conditioning test. That actually makes me feel a little better about it. I thought that this was a nagging injury dating back to last season. But if it happened during the conditioning test, there's a much better chance that it's a minor injury.

What does it say about you that you got injured during a conditioning test on your first day in camp, before you even start practicing? Sheesh.

Thank you for saying almost word for word what I've been wanting to say, bozz, but didn't have the guts to say it.

This is really paving the way for Burnett to have a impact this year. As much as I would love to see him starting, I really want to have a healthy and happy Bigby back there for rushing downs and goal line situations. They can keep each other fresh and complement each other with opposite strengths.

If Bigby has health problems all year, we are in the same position as last year, no depth at safety. That makes me worry.

Not good. But let's hope it's a fluke and that it doesn't keep him out of practice for long.

I guess it could have happened walking down the street. But I'm a little skeptical when putting the pieces together. Hold out as long as possible, bad ankle, don't attend OFAs, keep it quiet, last ditch effort for a big contract, Rottenhaus as agent, hurt in a condition test... Isn't that just running a specified distance in a speciied time? Hope I'm wrong in my questioning the situation. It is nice to hear he said he's going to be a team player and help the rook.
