I'm kind of the odd one out. I thought the secondary was unable to cover for the duration of a 3 step drop. I didn't see a whole lot of coverage sacks. It is hard for me to blame the D line and the Pass rush when the ball is out to the first read in 3 seconds. No pass rush is that fast.

The QBs who were good at quick reads burned them. But they got to Big Ben quite a few times. He was able to shake off a few and almost 1/3 of his yards were against Bush.

The other ones that burned us were 1. Warner, when we had 4 missing CBs that are going to be back and Bigby for half the game. 2. Favre, who was throwing at a backup safety when we played in Minnesota. I think the problems with the Pass rush are over stated.

I just wonder who on the defense can generate a pass rush other than Clay Matthews?

"Our defense led the league in takeaways and defense against the run," second-year defensive coordinator Dom Capers said in a phone interview. "Normally, when you lead the league in takeaways and run defense, you should have a shot. So probably our biggest challenge is to figure out how to improve our pass defense, especially how to get more pressure on a consistent basis."

I think this is the key here. Generate more pass pressure and we have an elite D. You may even see more shots at INTs than even last year.

And I like that. It's just that the method isn't the one I'd like to take.

We had no real pass rusher on the D-line besides Cullen Jenkins. Johnny Jolly is good, but he didn't get to the QB a whole lot. Pickett is a monster in the middle, but he's the kind of guy who holds up his men, doesn't let anyone get passed him, rather than collapsing the pocket.

So I understand that we want to go with Raji in the middle and drafted someone who can get to the QB in Mike Neal.

Thing is, it won't solve our OLB problems. You can get by pretty well with guys like Jolly and Pickett when you have someone who can take advantage of getting 1-on-1 match-ups against TE, RBs and maybe even RTs.

Problem is, Jones and Matthews both lose that battle too often. Once they're engaged, they're out of the play. It seems like we're trying to compensate, rather than fix the issue.

Good Read.

I think the defense will be all that is advertised.

Perhaps the improved "D" will make up for the points lost from the inevitable "Shanks" from Crosby that will come, and come, and come again.

Read some rumors about 2 weeks ago that the packers may still pursue Adalius Thomas or Keith Bulluck...they're in their early 30s, so I don't know if they'd help much at OLB

I echo the concerns of dexter sinister...we got TOASTED vs. AZ. You can't assume Harris will provide anything, so Tramon #2, and Lee and Underwood being relied on heavily, in at least the nickle...cross the fingers.

On a postive note, I really don't think the pass rush will be an issue. The Raji move, another year in the 3-4, adding Neal could mask our deficiencies at CB.

Aren't the LBs more important in defending a 3 step drop than the CBs in a zone defense?
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Half of Clays sacks would be about 5. That is not a lot. I just said I didn't see a lot of coverage sacks. Not that I didn't see any. Clay didn't get any against MN and had 1 against Warner in AZ. Who are the ones we were most concerned about anyway. No teams get much pressure on QBs right away. They depend on the secondary to make the QB hold the ball longer and go through his reads.

As stated in teh article, this is our second year in the 3-4. I am hoping to see some improvement as the players are more comfortable. Also, I am looking forward to pre-season to see if we have any other exotic plays like last year's Psycho. Having a rare play that totally throws off the offense is great.

Ya that formation totally threw off the offenses, they would think they could gain 20 yards every play lol
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
