Despite decades of mediocrity, the Brewers have never succeeded in becoming lovable losers like the Cubs. They don't seem to inspire more apathy than passion (either love or hatred) in people.

As someone once remarked to me: "The Brewers don't have fans. They have a stadium full of drunks."

How could anyone expect a team founded 40 years ago to attain any adulation for being losers? Is there a curse behind the Brewers losing? Has their been a Brewers team that did very well in the regular season and then flopped in the post season?

There's more to those who love the Cubs than simply loving the Cubs because of their massive losing. In general the Cubs are one of the biggest underdogs and America likes the underdog.

I have been to games in both places. (About 6-7 in Milwaukee and 20 or more in Chicago.) The Cubs have more drunks than Milwaukee. But maybe that is because they have more fans in the stands.
