So in light of the whole Jim Joyce deal, I have come up with a solution to the whole "Instant replay would slow down the game!! Rabble rabble!" debate.

This argument has already been proven FALSE.

MLB has recently (last year I think) implemented instant replay for questionable home runs. If there is a questionable home run, they immediately look at the replay, and correct/uphold the call. It takes 1 minute tops.

In the past, this is what would happen:

-Manager would come out and argue for a few minutes.
-Crew chief would gather up the umps, and discuss for several minutes with each other what they THOUGHT they saw.
-Crew chief would change the call.
-Then the OTHER teams manager would come out, and argue for another several minutes.

So, which way is faster? Exactly.

There should be instant replay for everything except for balls and strikes, and balks. Similar to the NFL, there would be a challenge system, in which you get so many challenges per game.

Now, with that in place, there is no longer a need for managers to leave the dugout and argue calls. If you leave the dugout, its an automatic ejection and two week suspension without pay.

This gets the call right AND speeds up the game. Problem solved.

Your welcome.

I think all professional sports should employ a viewer in the booth who reviews every play. If it's obvious a bad call was made, he sends a buzz to the head ump/ref/etc to overturn the call or have it further reviewed.

I'm pretty sure that it's the commercials and advertisement between just about every hitter that make the game slower.

This isn't like a review in the NFL. On TV, the commentators can see it in 1, sometimes 2 replays. I don't see how a ref would have to take 5 minutes.

GREAT point, David! The arguments take longer then it would have for a ref too review it. Plus, it would have given the kid what he EARNED, a perfect game. He probably will never get another one in his career.

Who cares about whether it speeds it up or slows it down. The fact is the right calls need to be made and instant replay allows for that to happen more often than not. The argument that the rhythm of the game can't be touched is ridiculous. Players adapt and they would adapt to instant replay whether the game goes faster like iron man says or slower like the baseball fan of the way past might say.

Great call IM. I dare anyone oppose your stance. I can't find any flaw in your armor, and there isn't a logical argument against it.

The ONLY way I'd be okay with instant replay in MLB is if it's in the form of "challenges" from the manager. The game will absolutely slow down even more if every single disputed call is reviewed. And I guarantee instant replay won't stop managers from leaving the dugout to argue.

The ump obviously got the call wrong, but what I love about it is that he wasn't just going to give the call to the pitcher throwing a perfect game. There are all these "unwritten rules" that basically say you do whatever you can to give the guy the calls for a no-hitter/perfect game, even if you're on the opposing team (the no-bunting garbage). It shows that he's not automatically giving an advantage to someone just because of the situation. That said, he still got it wrong.

I'm in no way saying instant replay shouldn't be implemented, but eventually if it is put in place, people will be calling for replay on balls and strikes since they'd be already using it for basically everything else, and that goes way too far. I can see it getting out of hand very quickly.

If a manager is only given a couple challenges a game, then I'm all for it.

Maybe MLB likes being in the news ... even if its blasting the Ump's for making a bad call.

Does this press help or hurt MLB? Does it bring more viewers in? Does it take current viewers away?
