I agree, this must be a leak to spurn those who are holding out. Let's take valuable time away from legitimate replacements for the purpose of getting one good player and another who has yet to maximize his potential to sign their tenders.

Wait, nope, I don't think so. I think the Packers are trying to figure out where to place these guys to best suit the team. The Raji/Pickett move makes sense in that Raji has youth and power on his side. The Bush/Blackmon move makes sense in that Bush is a good special teamer and they'd like to find a position that he can double his value with on the team. Blackmon is quick and elusive with the ball in his hands, putting him at Safety would give him more ballhawking opportunities.

The information isn't leaked. They have reporters watching the OTA's and they are reporting their observations.

I do think the moves are moderately related to the unsigned players. I do not think the information hitting the internet or public is any kind of 'leak'. It's reporters doing their job while they observe the OTA's.

I think if Bush or Blackmon falter in their new position, they'll be outtie.

Lol.

I think that quite a bit hinges on Sam Shields. If he does make the roster as a return specialist, that might just be the end of Blackmon. Although with this move, it looks like they're trying to find a roster spot for Blackmon, rather than Bush this year.

Maybe Shields would be more of a KR and Blackmon a PR.

Bush's chances to make the team is slimmer than in years past, even while being good on STs.

It's all pure speculation, though.

Traditionally, Capers has employed more zone (off) coverage in his 3-4 scheme.

Usually, players like Blackmon (speed, agile, uber athletic) possess the skills needed to excel in off man.

Perhaps this move is an indication that the Packers plan to play even more cover-man or press-man coverage? Although Bush and press-man / cover-man don't go hand in hand either... :-?

Doesn't make any sense to me. We are taking away a guy who was a beast in the middle last year and who helped us become one of the best run stopping defenses in the entire NFL, and replacing him with an unproven player(who frankly got pushed around at times last year). Raji has to make a great leap for this move to be successful IMO.

Two of them came against the Vikings.

It doesn't matter if he ran back five in one season. If he's not able to stay healthy, what's the point of wasting a roster spot on him?

If we find a capable Punt Returner that serves a dual roll, I don't see Blackmon staying around. I don't think Bush or Blackmon will both be back. I'm confident one of them will be gone. I'm leaning towards Bush.

This is a good time of the year to do some teaching. That's what this is. Raji will still play some end and Pickett will still play some nose tackle, but they'll both be able to play both positions. They need to learn and get reps at that position to play it. Now how much they play each position is a matter of something completely different.

I think situations will probably decide that. You're base defense may not be your primary defense. I believe last year GB played more nickel than base. The Packers need to get a push from the nose tackle if they can't get a consistent pass rush from ROLB and Raji does that better than Pickett. He plays with better leverage.

I don't see anything wrong with this move one bit. It's all about maximizing your strengths and having two 325-plus pound defensive lineman on the field at the same time is pretty scary.

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
