Both Raji and Pickett confirmed they have switched positions. Raji is now starting nose, Pickett at left end. It is permanent.

WTF? ... I didnt think raji was that great at the nose last year; IMO pickett looked better and we all know in a 34 the nose is the most important position.

Let alone raji is supposedly a bit more athletic ie hence left end would be better suited ... this should be interesting ...

I just cant see pickett taking jollys place.

Whaaaaa really? They must have seen something in Raji over the offseason they really like. Or they feel Raji is a better player than Jenkins or Jolly at this point and want him on the field no matter what.

I sort of expected Raji to stick at end another year and transition over to nose in 1/2 years, simply because of how well Picket plays nose and the contract they gave him.

The real question to me is this.

You have two 330+ pound guys on the field at the same time. Both will get tired. Who is our rotational NT right now? If this is permanent, they have to have been impressed enough by someone to think that he can do a decent enough job as our 2nd string NT.

Toribio, maybe? He's been on our PS for quite a while. Maybe they think that Jolly can do the job, as wel? He certainly has the mold of a NT.

I think this is step one into resolving the lack of interior push on the protection pocket that the Packers struggled with last season..

I also think this is evidence marker two that the Packers think they won't have Jolly for the entire season. Marker One was two additions in the draft in the Dline depth.

By placing Pickett and Raji on the field in 1st and 2nd down together it will reduce the snaps of your better pass rushers in Jenkins and Jolly.. add in Wynn and Neal looking for better pass rush in passing sets.

The question that occurs to me: Is this a precautionary move in the event that Jolly, whose trial resumes on Friday, is unavailable to play this season -- or, more ominously for Jolly, does this mark the death knell of his tenure in Green Bay?

Edit: Ah, I see Shawn beat me to the punch. I got called away in the middle of posting to resolve a situation with my sister's dog.

I like the idea of Raji in the middle more than Pickett. Raji is young and is one helluva force. He blows people up when his ankle is healthy. Pickett is getting a little older, still has it though. I think he'll be more effective on the edge than inside compared to Raji.

if Raji proves to be a good NT (he was projected to max in a 4-3) then we may have the best Dline depth since 07.

besides, Raji needs NT reps if Pickett gets hurt

Fairly significant position changes on the Packers D-line: Raji and Pickett flip flopping. Pickett said he was reluctant to move at first.

Pickett will play DE in the base and Raji will play nose. In the nickel, it will be Raji and Cullen Jenkins up front.

Here  and here .

I bet that there'll be an article up soon.

Anyway, that's asking a lot from Raji at this point. He is one of the better pass rushers on the roster, as well, though. Jolly's a tad bit overrated. Although he should be in the rotation.

I'm hoping to see that nickel line change to Neal and Jenkins soon, but Neal's quite raw.
