So do we have a depth chart yet for the OL? If so, what is it?

If not, anyone want to take a guess?

Here's mine:
Cliffy - Spitz - Wells - Sitton - Tausch
Buluga - Colledge - Spitz - ? - Lang

That'd be my guess, as well.

I wonder who will take that last spot. Dietrich-Smith or Newhouse. I asume that we won't go with 10 O-linemen on the roster.

"Rockmolder" wrote:

Actually, I'm hoping that Dietrich-Smith and Newhouse both beat out Colledge as Colledge rubbed me the wrong way last year. Yeah, I know that we go with 9. So if one of them beat out Colledge, I'd be stoked. Or best possible situation I guess is for both to beat out Colledge and one of them make it to the PS.

One will make the roster, regardless. You put down just 8 players right there. Spitz twice. He'll slide over to C and Colledge to LG if Wells gets injured.

You know what would be awesome? If Breno made the roster again. There has to be something the coaching staff sees in him. That's the only way you can possibly even consider putting him on the team, yet, having him inactive every single game.

Cliffy, Spitz, Wells, Sitton, Tausch
Bulaga, Colledge, EDS, Newhouse, Lang

This is how it probably looks today, i would assume EDS over colledge or newhouse on final cuts for his ability to play center/guard. Trading Colledge for a late round pick would be an ideal situation.

I'd prefer kicking Lang inside too guard and having Bulaga be the backup swing tackle for the year.

Assuming that this is not just McCarthy doing his usual management non-speak, here's my prediction:

Either Newhouse proves to be the steal of the draft and the LG equivalent of Sitton, or LG proves to be a sieve and Bulaga (sans reps at G) gets shifted over midseason. Oh yes, and if the "sieve" scenario develops, Rodgers will be knocked out of a game before midseason.

IMO only putting Bulaga at LT reps is asking for trouble. I'm sorry, but if McCarthy and Thompson go into this season thinking that Colledge/Spitz are the answer for 2010 at LG, they're playing with fire next to the gas pumps.

"Wade" wrote:

I would suggest relying on Clifton to stay healthy all year at LT was playing with fire. We need a proper backup there, not just for this season but to take over for the next decade.

Last year plugging in a LG to play LT against elite pass rushers failed. By making Bulaga LT-specific we have the benefit of getting him ready for his future LT career and also provide ourselves with a ready backup for WHEN clifton gets injured.

Last year when Clifton went down we had to have musical chairs all along the line. Not any more.

I actually think we're pretty deep at LG. I think Colledge will actually win the job but if he doesn't it's a fair bet one of Spitz, Lang, Newhouse or even EDS plays well enough in camp to win the job. MM said Lang would be taking reps at LG along with RT in TC.

That's going to be one of the fiercest camp battles as it is, it doesn't need Bulaga there as well imo.

I don't know much about depth charts and stuff, I just want the best 5 out there to insure our QB doesn't lead the league in being sacked. That's it, nothing more.

That was my thought, can we get a draft choice, a young OLB, a jersey, a cheese cutter, or bottle opener, anything?

We're keeping 9, right? I imagine Colledge goes as he seems to be unhappy in GB. I'd love to have any draft pick for Colledge.

I like your depth chart. I didn't factor in Newhouse earlier so I'll put him in based on yours. I'm thinking with 9, it will look something like:

Cliffy, Spitz, Wells, Sitton, Tausch
Buluga, EDS, EDS, Newhouse, Lang

With Spitz backing up EDS for the 3rd C position.

im cautiously optimistic about the OL here, still dont think we have really improved that much...but do have the depth that we didnt have last year. Hoping Bulaga will challenge for a starting spot but atleast be ready to step in if cliffy or taushy go down injured.

Roll on training camp

Me too. Remember last year when we went into the season without Tauscher and with Spitz hurt? Add the two picks in the draft and I can see our line building some good chemistry and possibly becoming a strong force in the future (Bulaga - Newhouse - Spitz - Sitton - Lang).

Looks like they are starting to sort it all out. One thing, Wells is the starting center, Spitz will most likely be LG Sitton RG.

Clifton..Spitz...Wells...Sitton...Tauscher

Hopefully Cliffy and Tausch can stay healthy long enoungh for Bulaga and Lang to be ready if(when?) ine of them get injured.

Lang has already proven he can start, Bulaga hopefully will be ready(imho he will be).

I like that they now have a viable alternative for Clifton and Tauscher too.

I also think a sleeper is sitting there with Newhouse. He may have been the best fit for the Pack of all the Guards in the draft. He ran a combine best 5.0 forty and the more hyped guards didn't look to really fit what we do. Not bad size either at almost 6-4 and 318 lbs.

My guess is he wins a spot on the 52.
