Most fans will agree that OLB is our biggest draft need going into day three of the draft. Hopefully Ted finds a good one. After that, I think we COULD use help at any position except ILB and NT, but I would go with kick returner as our next highest need. Blackmon is good but injury prone. We need a wide receiver who can return kicks and punts.

After that, it's all about the best players available at any of the following positions: RB, TE, G, T (Lang could be switched to guard if we find a good one), CB, another DE, another S, another OLB, or a third QB.

No pick in the fourth round, though, so it'll be hard to find a difference-maker today.

OLB, wr/return man or rb/return man, qb to groom, punter perhaps, corner

could see us going for any of those ... but ya the pickings get slim since no 4th rounder ...

I really hope we shore up the LOLB spot this offseason.

IMO our corners should be ok with many coming off injuries ie lee, blackmon, harris (cross fingers) ...

I highly doubt we draft another safety ie they seem pretty high on this new kid.

If Perrish Cox is there late 4th, I'd give up a 2011 3rd rounder for him.

OLB OBrien Schofield is definitely on my wish list - worth taking a gamble lower in the draft. on his reconstructed knee.

I wanted Austen Lane from Murray St. He would have been a perfect fit across from CM3. Damned Jaguars!

No OLB, no kick returner, no CB. That's disappointing. I have confidence that our front office did the best it could, but I get the feeling that after the first pick, this draft didn't really fall our way.

You know, it's interesting hearing some tidbits about 3-4 LBs coming out this week.

Charley Casserly on NFLN said he goes back with Bill Cowher, and Cowher was absolutely dead set against talking a DE-turned 3-4 OLB without first knowing for sure you were going to give the guy 2-3 years to develop and learn the position as a back-up. Makes you wonder how much use a OLB who is a former DE in college would've been in making an immediate contribution. Kampman spoke this off-season about how it was different having to study TEs, WRs, and Ts on tape instead of focusing on just Tackles.

Personally, I'm fine that we didn't draft any OLBs. I think there is an overblown perception that we need an OLB. We've got Mathews and Jones, who were a decent starting tandem. Biggest thing is that there very young, you expect them to grow as players and get better. Behind them we have some questions for sure, but it's not like we're without hope. Obizor has flashed some potential, as has Jeremy Thompson (all the way back in TC last year, I know). Poppinga is a solid run stopper, too. I think we're okay - we are in a position to get better without necessarily drafting more talent at the position.

CB too, you've got Lee and Underwood who should both grow. Tramon is a decent option as starter, also. All is not lost, really. You've got Nick Collins who can come down and cover as a nickel here and there if need be. We'll be okay there too, at least in the short term.

I'm trying to say we filled our most pressing needs, IMO. Well, that is besides punter. But you get a strong feeling from hearing Ted today that our starting punter is already on the roster. I hope he's right... in his defense he could sign any punter off the street and it'd be very hard not to improve on Kapinos' numbers.

Good points, AADP. Yes, I forgot to mention punter.

I think we are probably okay at CB, but I worry about it because of the injury histories of the guys we have now. OLB is the one position I really don't feel good about. After Matthews, I think we have a bunch of below average guys, with the possible exception of Brad Jones. We really need him to take a big leap this year. Poppinga is not a pass rusher and does not belong on the roster, Thompson disappeared when it counted last season then suffered a serious neck injury, and Obozior is probably at least a year away from having a chance to make an impact.

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
