I was thinking that readers would have to become more familiar with the word, "allegedly" as it pertains to Dez within the next couple of years, not HOURS.

Dez Bryant would be wise to quit talking until after the draft
Posted by Mike Florio on March 31, 2010 4:22 PM ET
Rosenthal posted an item earlier today regarding receiver Dez Bryant's recent comments to the Associated Press. Rosenthal seemed to like Bryant's bravado.

I don't.

Bryant could very well end up being a phenomenal NFL player. But if he flames out, the warning signs were present.

It started with the decision to lie to NCAA investigators regarding his relationship with Deion Sanders. And it was magnified by the report -- not rumor, as the AP now tries to describe it -- from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports regarding multiple instances of tardiness for various activities, including games.

Bryant put his credibility firmly on the line when he responded to the report by claiming he's never been late for anything. Any team that is able to confirm Cole's report with a phone call to an Oklahoma State assistant coach, teammate, or roommate should think seriously about taking Bryant off the board, because it will mean that Bryant cannot be trusted, ever.

More recently, Bryant blew his chance at a buzz-building Pro Day by not bringing his best cleats to the event. And while he scoffs at our report that he forgot to bring cleats at all by pointing out he brought six pairs but didn't bring the best ones, does he really think that his explanation makes the situation any better?

Bryant forgot to bring the shoes he wanted to wear. The fact that he brought a bunch of other shoes makes him look even more scatterbrained and disorganized.

His response? "What do this got to do with me playing football? Even if I did forget my cleats, what do that have to do with me playing football? I don't think it has anything to do with me playing football."

Technically, it doesn't have anything to do with playing football. But the kind of character flaw that makes a guy tell a lie whenever he thinks the truth would hurt his interests and the kind of knuckleheadedness that makes a guy show up late (allegedly) or forget to bring his best shoes for the biggest 40-yard dash of his life will manifest itself in other ways.

Plaxico Burress was constantly late for stuff. And he eventually blew a hole through his leg and landed in jail for 20 months.

Burress wasn't a criminal. But he did something criminally stupid. And Bryant is supplying the football-following world with evidence to reinforce the time-honored maxim that stupid is as stupid does.

Plenty of stupid guys can play football very well. But stupid guys can also do things that keep them from being available to play football. And it can happen because they slept too late or because they carried a loaded gun into a Manhattan night club or because of one of many other potential reasons in between.

So whoever decides to take a chance on Bryant will have to account for the possibility that he might do something to affect his ability to play football -- and they'll need to be able and willing to spend the money and time necessary to protect Bryant from himself.

Our advice to Bryant? Quit trying to explain these events. It's only making the situation yet.

Better yet, don't say anything at all until after you're drafted.

I swear this kid is going to be there at 23 if he keeps running his mouth.

If he's there at 23 and we didn't trade out of it, we would be wise to select him. We need WR depth.

Yaaaaa Ted Thompson you better pick this guy, he is better than Jordy and Jones. Dez can return kicks and is a big wr. Don't let me down this year Ted Thompson you blew it last year by passing on Crabtree don't blow it again.

BTW Thanks PackZ i love the pic 😃
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Think if Crabtree was drafted by a team that could actually pass the ball.

James Jones is a free agent I believe after this season if there is a new CBA so WR isn't that far off of being a potential need especially if GB lets Jones go and Driver declines because of age.

I remember a lot of questions about Randy Moss and this guy is not on the level of Moss, but he's on a high level. He's very close to Michael Crabtree, who by the way had a great rookie year despite missing five games and really not starting a whole lot until half way through the season. Crabtree will be a better pro than B.J. Raji in my opinion.

Bryant will be a better pro than Charles Brown. It truly is need vs. BPA.

This entire thread is a big overreaction. Mike McCarthy being there doesn't mean a whole lot. A lot of teams were there. It was a highly anticipated workout. Ted Thompson was at USC's proday today. Maybe he was there for Charles Brown? Taylor Mays? Everson Griffen? Joe McKnight?

The Packers will do their homework on most players especially the big name guys. The Packers could move down and Bryant could continue a slide. At 29 you take him and then you have extra picks to address the offensive line, pass rush, and your secondary. This idea that the first-round pick has to come in and put you over the top is a stretch. Sometime yes, but it doesn't happen all that much.

Who says we can actually pass the ball? Remember, 4 is gone therefore we suck at the QB position. As for Raji and weed, I was unaware he was suspended any games for it. Oh, he wasn't? So that means it's not an issue. If you think Raji is the only one tokin up on the Packers, you're very naive and ignorant my friend.

I think Crabtree will be great! [strike]I also think he will go out and celebrate the fact one night, crank a few rounds off from his Glock into his crotch or somewhere while drinking and spraying Cristal all over the tiitty bar. I think Dez Bryant will be with him when it happens, unless he is too busy sucking on a crack pipe or some sizzurp while admiring his college diploma and bank book while tagging an underage hooker that took the time and trouble to tell him what the documents say, but will subsequently sue his ass for unpaid child support. I have been known to be a little skeptical, so I could be way off. The hooker might not sue, for example, in exchange for one of his houses he buys after he leaves his 1st team for his big payday in Oakland after he raises so much hell about his rookie contract that the team that drafted him dumps his dumbass for a 7th rounder in trade. I guess if we get him we could ask Curly's Pub to lay in the Cristal and go topless, but frankly, I see it as only a stop-gap measure.[/strike]

Back to Dez-

I don't like the Crabtree/Me-on/Parker connections, his pro day, NFLN speculating him at 23 while pointing a camera right at [strike]Fred Flintstone[/strike] MM, the "explanation" for not having the proper equipment at his pro day or whatever the hell they called it, the LAUGHING OFF of failing to complete his drills, the comment to one of his prospective employers that he doesn't like to run a slant route... I got more, but I have already chewed up an entire slow off-season day bitching about the one thing that was somewhat newsworthy, plus, I could be wrong, just like everyone that happens to disagree with me. :thumbleft:

beast (53m) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (8h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (13h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (15h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
