This offseason has been a slow one. Even though we're getting used to just that as Packers fans, this one seems even more boring than usual. So I dug into the archives and looked for a play worthy of dissecting.

And I found one.

This play is from the week 6 game against the Lions. The game where most Packer fans got some confidence back in our defense, which had struggled bigtime after starting off on a good note against the Bears in week 1.

It's also the first game where Aaron Kampman puts his hand back on the ground to rush the passer.

Given, the defense was playing a Lions offense without starting QB Matthew Stafford and superstar WR Calvin "Megatron" Johnson, but a total shut-out (0 26) is always impressive.

The offense struggled throughout the day, mainly because of penalties, but our defense kept us in with some great plays and interceptions.

Just like this interception by DE/DT Cullen Jenkins.

The defense comes out in what looks like a cover 2 man. Both safeties line up deep, Harris and Tramon are on the receivers on the outside and Woodson covers the slot receiver.

The Lions must've looked his way a little, because the Packers sent Woodson on a blitz from there a few times before.

Matthews and Barnett sneak up and look like they're bringing some pressure on the inside. Chillar keeps off a little at first, and then sneaks up, looking like he'll come on a blitz on the outside.

If you run a screen against a normal cover 2 man, you hope to catch the defense running with their man, allowing you time to set up the screen and eventually having 3 rushers going after your QB, while, in this scenario, 2 linemen set up near the RB, getting rid of the LB who's in man on the RB and then just hoping that you'll get the 15 yards.

Like you can see, the special effects budget is still very small.

This image is a little crowded, but let's give it a shot.

The Packers seems to be playing some kind of cover 2 combo play.

The safeties are off-screen here, but they're, obviously, playing cover 2 deep.

The LBers drop into a zone. They're hanging around the first down line, about 15 yards deep.

The CBs are in man coverage, with Harris and Williams giving the receivers quite a cushion, while Woodson is playing pretty close to the slot receiver.

The Lions are trying to set up a screen. They're inviting the rush, holding in formation for a while, until the LG and RG pull out to the left. The LT, C and RT are left man to man with Kampman (playing LDE), Pickett and Jenkins.

Kevin Smith slips out to the left, getting behind his blockers. Maurice Morris is slipping out to his right, functioning as a safety valve for if the screen is sniffed out.

And that's exactly what Jenkins does.

Kampman easily beats Cherilus and gets to Culpepper who has to get rid of the ball before he wants to. At the same time, Jenkins sees that the screen is coming and begins to back off, getting close to the RB. Pickett does the same thing.

The Lions O-linemen keep going forward, leaving only Backus to "defend" the pass again Jenkins. Backus tries to push him away, but Cullen makes an athletic play and comes up with the ball.

When that all comes together, it pretty much looks like this.

Isn't that one of the prettiest pictures you've ever seen?

It's a little more messy than usual, but I hope that you'll like it.

nice breakdown.

Jenks def made the 3-4 transition easier on us.

i think we sniffed out screens pretty well this year (save that damn 3rd and 30esh VS the Bengals)

Good job, Rock. Heh. I had forgotten Culpepper ended up on the mighty Lions.

I don't mind the graphics. As long as it's easy to understand what's going on, and you did a good job with that.

gotta love when a play like that goes our way. And it basically came from A) the threat of us bringin big pressure (which we've been doing), and 😎 a minimal rush (3) being instinctive and sniffing out the play. I can't wait for the defense to get another year or two in the 3-4, especially while adding a few situational guys ala draft
We are born naked, wet and hungry. Then things get worse.

Zero2Cool (8h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (8h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (11h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (11h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (12h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (12h) : Thank you
wpr (12h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (12h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (12h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (12h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (12h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (13h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (13h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (14h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (14h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (14h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Bears are finalizing a deal to hire Ben Johnson as their head coach. (via @tompelissero )
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : Looks like Lions OC Ben Johnson is going to be the Bears coach
