This is a mistake that no one can afford to make, let alone a 3rd string TE. Very stupid thing to do.

I hope he learns from this, gets better and gets back on the field. Let's hope that he comes back from that fractured scapula. I've read somewhere that the fracture heals quite fast, but that it can take a few months for it to function fully again.

Btw, some more news on this.

Spencer Havner's agents confirm crash, deny DUI charges

by Tom Pelissero

Hours after a report surfaced that Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner is facing DUI charges, his agency, Athletes First, issued a strong denial any charges have been filed.

"Spencer Havner suffered only minor injuries this weekend in an accident, including a broken scapula, but he should be fully recovered in short order," Mark Humenik, Athletes First's general counsel, said in a statement.

"Despite unfounded media reports to the contrary, he has not been charged criminally with driving under the influence of alcohol or any other substance."

Asked if charges still are being contemplated or if Havner is out of the hospital, the agency declined further comment.

I thought it was common knowledge that a person can be arrested yet not formally charged right away.

In this case, he needed to see a doctor.. the OP stated he was arrested. Charges probably are coming.. unless there isn't enough supporting evidence to do so.

Regardless of the story, I hope he heals up and then realizes how dumb he is.

Sometimes I question the word "professional" in professional athletes. These guys make some of the dumbest decisions ever.

Everyone makes mistakes though.

Havner was arrested for DUI, DA to decide on charges
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel

March 16, 2010 11:12 a.m. |(49) Comments

Green Bay - A California Highway Patrol officer confirmed Tuesday that Green Bay Packers tight end Spencer Havner was arrested Saturday morning for driving his motorcycle under the influence of alcohol.

But whether Havner faces those charges will be determined by the Nevada County (Calif.) District Attorney's office.

Its their call whether or not to file charges, Officer Heather Blancarte said. Were filing charges as the CHP, but the DA will look over the report to see if they have enough evidence to file charges. Thats how it always works with DUIs.

According to Blancarte, this is what happened early in the morning of Saturday, March 13:

* Havner was riding his motorcycle eastbound on Woods Ravine in an unincorporated area of Nevada County. He made an unsafe turn and movement, which caused him to lose control of his bike and he was ejected;
* Havner received "major" injuries;
* He was taken to the hospital by private party;
* CHP got the call from the hospital -- it is called in all injury accidents -- and Havner was contacted at the hospital, where he was tested for driving under the influence. He was subsequently arrested for DUI.
* Havner was then released to the care of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley.
* Blood-alcohol level is not releasable at this time. The legal limit of blood alcohol level is .08% in California.
* Once the report is completed, it will be forwarded to the district attorneys office.

Martin Humenik, one of Havner's agents, released the following statement late last night:

"Spencer suffered only minor injuries this weekend in an accident, including a broken scapula, but he should be fully recovered in short order. Despite unfounded media reports to the contrary, he has not been charged criminally with driving under the influence or alcohol or any other substance."

Humenik it technically correct, Havner hasn't been charged criminally. But he was arrested after police tested him for DUI.

Sutter Roseville Hospital, the 2nd hospital to which he was tranferred, is just a few miles from where I live. I went to see him but he is no longer in the Hospital. I think the second hospital was just for some follow up tests.

I heard the accident happened on Indian Flat Road. It is not very long and is near Nevada City, CA.
I have a MapQuest link which you can see for yourself begins at the western end of the road. Even on highest magnification it take only a few clicks to get to the other end of Indian Flat Road. Go to the Aerial View and you can see where this could happen.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Nevada+City&state=CA&address=%5B17082-17099%5D+Indian+Flat+Rd&zipcode=95959&country=US&latitude=39.268835&longitude=-121.056355&geocode=BLOCK

That is right in the middle of the Gold mining area of California. It is a quaint, very rural area with few changes over the decades. They have a few things for Gold Mine history tourists but little else. There are a number of abandoned ghost towns in the area.

Spencer went to Nevada-Union High School which is huge and they bus students in from a long way. They have a beautiful football field with Field Turf. Too many drainage problems in the hills for grass. They have an excellent football program. Spencer is probably the best known player from that High School.

I suspect that Spencer was having one last good time with family and friends before flying to Green Bay for the offseason workout program which began Monday.

I hope he recovers and does not have the kind of break that ended Leroy Butler's career.

Nevada County does all their DUI arraignments on Fridays. You have to check back every Friday to see if he is arraigned. Nothing will happen other days of the week.

Gregory Weston is the Deputy District Attorney assigned all DUI's where the defendant's last name begins with the letters A-L.

His e-mail is gregory.weston@co.nevada.ca.us

I posted all this stuff so you may understand the accident better.
Some of you may have some misconceptions.

I hope Spencer heals completely. But maybe it will cause us to draft another tight end. If a good one would fall to us around the 4th pick that could be very good. We seem to do well in a double tight end set, especially now with Finley's talent.

Looking for the silver lining.

For once something happened out here where I can!

He was not at the second hospital very long. I didn't hear about it until Monday night and the accident was Saturday morning. He was long gone when I went tothe Hospital.

They showed the accident scene out here on local television tonight but with nothing to see so they just showed the intersection sign. That is a very good sign (no pun intended).

It is a rural area and he is the most famous person from there currently. The news shows his picture in his High School Jersey and not UCLA or the Packers.

L:ke I said earlier the nearest town has 3000 people, he was not endangering the public. I think he came to a T intersection on the non street light road too fast and wiped out. Go to the northeast end of the road (the opposite end from the Mapquest position given earlier)

Somebody took him to the Hospital. It was the Emergency Room people that called the Highway Patrol as they are required to by law.

My main concern is that he fractured one of the small lateral parts of the scapula as Leroy Butler did. Leroy could not come back because the shoulder was too unstable.

That last hometown fling before flying to Green Bay for the offseason program is going to cost him.

Whether or not a DUI charge would stick would be determined by what his BAC was at time of testing and method of testing. If by blood it will return a higher value. It can be determined if he was coming up or coming down.
I am therefor I think.
