Just pointing out that all of you seem to be under the assumption that Al Harris will be fine, and are saying we should plan accordingly. Well, what if hes not fine? Then all of you are going to be complaining about how we didn't go out and get someone as depth. We have tramon and then we have nothing but unknowns.

just sayin ~

I'm not sure if Al will return to form or not. I have no doubts that he'll be at least a quality 3rd or 4th and I have faith in Tramon.

Is that necessary? Using such a broad stroke when saying 'all of you' will be complaining ... You can count me on the bandwagon that is wanting to find out what we have in Patrick Lee and Will Blackmon (the CB not returner).

It's funny, I've seen a lot of posts on this forum pointing fingers at the people who are pissed at the Packers for not being aggressive in free agency, however I don't see any people actually being pissed at the Packers for not being aggressive in free agency.

Might as well bash Ted Thompson right now and get it out of your system because he's not going to sign anyone. The two best UFAs at tackle were Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher. Unless you're willing to give a first and third for a tackle, there just isn't a scenario where you can get a quality player.

It's going to have to be done via the draft.

Right now, I think Green Bay needs to add a pass rusher, developmental left tackle, and a strong safety.

It's highly unlikely the team can rely on Clifton to start every single game this season. He's wearing down and he'll have his bumps and bruises. He has the last two years. Same with Tauscher.

I think they have T.J. Lang as a potential right tackle or even left guard. You can't rule him out inside either where he's probably best built for.

I wouldn't mind a veteran strong safety being picked up. Someone like Tyrone Carter. They need a smart instinctive player out there. Not necessary someone with a lot of range that goes for the big hit.

Pass Rush is evident as this point. You pressure the QB, the secondary looks a lot stronger.

By having Tauscher, Clifton and Lang on the roster prior to the draft... it opens our draft up to truly taking the BP that fits our team.

Ted has proved over his tenure not to be a needs based drafter...

Last season... he proved that he is not necessarily a Best Player Available drafter either. Ted stated before the draft how highly he thought of Crabtree.. and after his pick as well.

So, that leaves the best player (BP) that fits our organization in the scouting groups opinion.

All the spots from last year, starting that is, has the returning players in them.. and in better shape than last season.( Okay.. minus a very average punter whom took exception to not being tagged at a premium dollar.. lol. But last time I checked.. that usually affects the front portion of the draft little.. especially in a year where no premium prospects are clamoring to be 4th or 5th round choices.)

Clifton doesn't have the physical issues of last season, Mark will be with the club through camp, Bigby won't have an ankle this season.. Jones and Matthews have a year under them in the NFL.. so forth and so on.

Now that doesn't mean we have areas the need depth or could be improved by pushing or replacing a starter.. but with having the roster intact from last season for the most part.. it will allow us to utilize a deep draft to the maximum to upgrade the bottom 50% of the roster.. and hopefully find a couple of solid answers to immediate upgrades or long range questions of who is next.

Example.. if Ted and company see a Safford in about the same range of 4 or 5 other tackles when our name comes up at #23.. it will give him freedom to open up his board a bit and maybe select a player in the same tier at another position that could help the club.. say a smart safety to pair with Collins and push Bigby to either improve or spend more time on the bench watching the defense.

plus 1 for pointing out a major concern and I was thinking the same thing. Plus how much longer can Al be on top of his game at his age?
OT for future - Clifton has been banged up for years. Still good when healthy but always hurt. Lang is good but may not be a LT.
Tie with SS and CB - Alot of people talk about Blackmon but I never really notice him when he does play CB. I don't think he is a future starter. Pat Lee is going on 2 yrs of not playing. Seems like a red flag to me. Nobody at all behind our Safeties. Bigby is average.
OLB-Will Jones step it up? He was average last year. I think grabbing Porter for 1-2 yrs would be a good fit. If he is a team cancer than dump him.
KR/PR-Again Blackmon is inured alot and we have no one else.
Punter-can we finally get somone already?
Luxery pick would be a fast RB to have a change of pace. If one would fall. Spillar in first round Best in 2nd. Otherwise I don't think there is another out there. This would take care of the KR/PR also. Look at the Bears with Hester and the Vikings with Harvin. A special teamer that can fill another role.
AND A NEW OFFENSIVE LINE COACH!

I think the Packers need a future starting LT, S and P but other than that I don't think the Packers have needs...

but another QB, RB, CB, LB or two would be nice for them to compete

Id put a LOLB unless they really think jeremy, brad j., or obiazor can fill the role. (ie Id really like a solid guy for this position).

I don't get all the love for Wells? HE's just adequate. He's undersized and gets pushed around by the big tackles in the NFC North. Detroits going to get a monster DT in this draft. He's assignment sure but has no upside.

I like Spitz at centre. Lang as back up RT. (unless he can surplant Tauch). Draft a LT for the future. And find the best case option for RG whether it a draft pick or FA.

The only way I see Spitz at RG is if the team drafts a ready to start center.

Who's better than Scott Wells on our roster at Center or who's available that we can get who's better?

Spitz at Center is a waste of his talent. He should be a Guard, not Center.

I'm first in line to push for a big fat OL that can dominate, but from the little things I've seen of Wells, he has one helluva mean streak and holds his own just fine. Am I saying he's the answer for the next 5 years? No. For the next year or two, I'm okay with that. I still think we need to draft future OL starters and groom them accordingly.
