No excuses

Agreed.

So what does that mean? So what it shouldn't matter?

You don't think we have Jenkins, Harris, Bigby and a healthy Hawk we don't play better defensively and beat the Hawks?

Nothing replaces good play but healthy teams with their best guys on the field win games when the team hasn't played their best and hurting teams lose games they maybe very well could have won.

Sound familiar?

In the NFL today it's all about making plays and coming up with big plays in critical situations and that's less likely when you've got guys with little playing time in there who still have to get to that point they can be in the right place at the right time.

Yes, injuries create "opportunities" for backups to show they are capable but if you think they are going to go out and show that in 60 or 120 minutes of football, well, that's a huge stretch.

Wow, the excuses are thick in here...like flies.

I've got news for you. Every football team in the NFL has a list of players who play injured or hurt. Look at P. Burress last year with the Giants.

Wow.

In years past when people mentioned injuries (like '05), everyone said that's not an excuse and there and no one gets a free pass, especially Brett Favre. But now, when Aaron Rodgers's at the helm, it's excuse city.

Interesting.

The backpedaling is creating quite a vortex in GB.

Okay lets flip the script a little.

05' season.. ravaged by injuries, shouldn't have Brett been able to lead us to more than 4 wins?

I mean, injuries are part of the game right, teams should be just able to snap the fingers and insert Joe Camel into the lineup and just win, correct. Especially with a HOF QB at the helm. We proved that we didn't have depth at a majority of positions in the 05 season.

Of course injuries play a part.. the true test is in the depth of the team. If you want to harp on anything, harp on the lack of growth on the Oline and the personnel there.

Albeit, we believed we had better depth and talent at the second and third level of the roster.. at least on the Oline and DLine we look to be over estimating the depth there.

If you want to criticize the roster makeup with only 3 DT's on the 53, that is a legitimate concern. But looking deeper they had Jenkins filling a void in that makeup, and you can't predict a season ending injury like that. Add to it that Harrell should be ready to roll in a couple of weeks.. a person could understand the gamble there as well.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out over the next couple of weeks.. adds, cuts and lineup changes.

I recall in 05 that most Packer fans blamed the injuries, Ted Thompson, and Mike Sherman for what went on. I can't recall Packer Nation blaming No. 4. National Media now is another story.

My point exactly.. injuries can strip a team to the core.

That said, you are correct, the National Media was blaming BF for us sucking in '05. I remember that well. That's why I'm not blaming Aaron Rodgers . He's doing everything he can with this sub par OL.

But like I said before, put Peyton Manning behind this OL and see how well he does.

Players around the league play hurt throughout the year, Football is a physical sport and its impossible to not be hurt. You can say pretty much the same thing for any team with guys playing through some sort of pain. Am I surprised? No, we're 2-3...that surprises me.

Last season we were a team who found a way to win, we now seem like we always find a way to lose.

Now I love sports talk and ESPN and all that, but it creates a bit of a problem.

The problem with ESPN and sports talk is, everyone thinks they speak for everyone else.

If Around the Horn blames Brett Favre in 05, then so must everyone else of.

That's just not true, but that's the setting it's set.

Do you read before you post? Or do you just try to start an argument with everyone because you want to have Favre's babies? Because I clearly stated NO EXCUSES. Go to a Jets forum

I think you might be onto something Bakler5.

Bringing up the injuries is just stating facts. NO ONE said it's an "excuse" or "free pass" to ANYONE.
But then Roddy has never been one to let FACTS get in the way of ANY argument. :thumbleft:

The difference is we have a week 10 to 12 injury list going into week 5. I didn't see the Falcons out there with that many starters out and certainly not the best two performers on one side of the ball.

You take their right DE out of there, for example, and that alone is a big difference in how they play. Just like losing Harris and Jenkins has hurt us and then take out Bigby who we definately need in there blowing up the run game.

All in all we still put a decent lineup on the field but it's not surprising the 2 is in front of the 3 in the win/loss column either.

I agree injuries are part of the game but when half your defense is out or not practicing all week don't think it won't make a difference in those close games your talking about.

Well said.

There was one part of the game, I didn't watch it twice, so someone will have to help me here, where we had a fourth down and we were driving. I was thinking Mike McCarthy of '07 would have gone for it, but uber-conservative Mike McCarthy '08 model kicked the field goal. And we lose by 3 points.

I think this uber-conservative playing not to lose instead of playing to win is killing us. I'm missing the aggressive Mike McCarthy '07 model and really disliking the Mike McCarthy '08 model.
