Combine tidbits - Day 1
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel

Feb. 25, 2010 9:04 a.m. |(4) Comments

Indianapolis - If you're not doing so already, you should be following the Twitter feed of former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah (@movethesticks). He's already posting some of the heights and weights from this morning's weigh-ins.

Among the notables in the offensive line and tight ends groups:

* Maryland OT Bruce Campbell, one of the players most mentioned in the Packers' No. 23 slot, measured in Bruce Campbell 6063 (6 feet, 6 inches and 3/8ths), 314 lbs. Arm length of 36 1/4. "That's extremely long!" as Jeremiah pointed out. He was also told Campbell looked the most impressive when players were stripped down to their shorts.
* If the tape matches Campbell's physical skills, he might not last to the Packers at 23. Then again, Michael Oher went underdrafted at 23 last year.
* Rutgers OT Anthony Davis: 6050, 323 lbs, arm length 34.
* Oklahoma OT Trent Williams: 6045, 315 lbs. 34 1/4 arms.
* USC OT Charles Brown: 6053, 303 lbs, 35 1/4 arms. "Very crucial that he weighed in over 300 lbs. I was told it was good weight."
* Oklahoma St OT Russell Okung: 6052, 307 lbs, 36 arms.
* Iowa OT Bryan Bulaga: 6053, 33 1/4 arms.

Looks like Bulaga got the short end of the arms.
That seems to be the knock on Lang.

I say draft the smallest, quickest, most athletic tackle available so he fits the ZBS.

Indianapolis - Rutgers left tackle Anthony Davis (6050, 323 lbs, 34 arms) goes off the board early in most mock drafts even though his game tape doesn't really matchup.

One of his problems has been a lack of consistency, something Davis readily admits:

"Thats something I need to work on as far as consistency is concerned," he said. "I will get better at that doing what Im doing now, keep focusing on the little things and listening to my coaches."

In his podium session -- which teams do pay attention to -- Davis came across as quiet, passive and not very confident. And that's kind of how he plays, although at times he has shown a mean streak.

Probably didn't help Davis when he said that South Florida DE George Selvie was the best pass rusher he's played against. Two NFL scouts told me Selvie isn't a player.

The potential is there for Davis - he has all the left tackle tools - but the question teams will have to answer is will he ever fulfill that potential.

What kind of player will a team get in Davis?

"A hard worker, somebody who loves to play the game and whos attitude on and off the field will be contagious to his teammates," Davis said.

Iupati says holding rap "isn't me"
By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel

Feb. 25, 2010 1:37 p.m. |(2) Comments

Indianapolis - One of the players that could be available for the Packers at No. 23 is Idaho guard Mike Iupati. He is clearly the best guard of this crop but given his size (6-05.2, 331, 35-inch arms) and quick feet, some think he can play tackle.

But he took a bit of a hit at the Senior Bowl when Iupati showed a bad habit of holding and grabbing opponents.

Iupati said Thursday he had an off day.

"Yes, I realized that in the Senior game and that's not me. I don't know why I did that but I usually have a strong punch. I come off the ball very physical and sometimes too aggressive but I guess it was pass blocking that I kind of changed my game because I didn't want to get beat so I didn't just want try to attack them and them use my body commitment and swimming me to make me look real bad. But I do strike. I have a physical punch."

In his defense, most of his problems came when he played right guard (almost all of his experience is at left guard). Iupati thinks he can play tackle.

"I'm very quick setting off my left side as a left tackle, but just a little time with it, I know it would be fine. Just gotta give me time," he said.

Zero2Cool (15h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (16h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
