I see Foster-Dave cringing in his chair when he reads these last couple of posts. Tough marine guy, tough marine attitude and all.

We should totally have a treesome.

I'd remarry my wife, but not for any of those 5 reasons they mentioned. I'd remarry her because she has strengths that are my weaknesses.

I wouldn't call men pathetic. I'd call them more "duty." It's your duty to be 3rd. Your wife and kids come first. If you have to give your life, you do it. It's part of being a man. So divorced men often feel they lose their primary purpose, which is to protect and care for their family. That's probably why they're so unhappy.

I like your reason for wanting to remarry your wife, and I concur.

I suppose nobody else thinks that maybe the reason 9 out of 10 would remarry is that when a couple commit to a divorce, they don't beat around the bush to getting one?

I re-read the quoted article again.. and the following part makes me chuckle..

When asked to pick what is most important in a successful relationship, about half picked "Respect" (49%), followed by "Trust" (37%), and a "Sense of humor" (10%). "Sex" was picked by 2%. "Money" recorded 0%.

Unless I got my numbers from a bad source, finances are the number one reason for divorce. I find it humorously ironic that people say that "Money" is the LEAST important for a successful relationship, and that it got a big fat goose-egg.

What's the matter? People are afraid of being seen as materialistic? That's BS, IMHO.

Marriage is at its essence a financial contract, of course, and no amount of romantic palaver will ever truly gloss over that fact.

In the context of this survey, however, I think what people mean (or told themselves they meant) is that money is not important in choosing whom to marry. I know I didn't choose my wife for money, since she had none and in fact was in debt, which we've since painstakingly paid off.

Obviously, a couple that chronically overextends its means is going to put a tremendous amount of strain on the marital relationship. I've read statistics that say 70% of divorces are attributable to financial problems. But bear in mind, 90% of these people said they would remarry, so the preponderance of people answering this survey probably weren't imminently slated for divorce court and therefore perhaps we can infer that they aren't going through excessive financial issues at this time.

+1 to Formo for having the balls to say that. And I agree.

Funny, had a similar experience to Non. My wife is horrible with finances so I became a finance Nazi and completely took over both mine and her paychecks. I give her an allowance with her own money and also allow her to buy investments. She's actually quite good at mutual funds and stocks, but give her credit cards and you'd have a serious problem.

I don't believe in equality one bit. Equality is one of those stupid politically correct words. You do what you're good at. My wife is way better than me at a lot of things and I'm better at her with finances and cooking. So I do the cooking and the finances and she pretty much does everything else.

I strongly believe in roles. You play to your strengths. You have each the person do what they're good at. If your spouse is good at nothing, you picked a bad spouse.

Now before anyone calls me sexist when it comes to finances, I have a female friend who should have been the finances Nazi. Her stupid husband blew $1.2 million gambling with tech stocks and now it's worth $200k and they're nearing retirement. $200k in San Francisco for retirement doesn't go very far, especially considering that during the dot com, they were making more than that every year.

He convinced her that he knew what was up and she allowed him to take her retirement fund as well as his own. It should have been the other way around with her managing both their finances and her giving him an allowance because he's a financial retard.

you'd think this would be so easy for me since i've only been married 6 short months but in that time, we've been thru something that was/is awful. we're both working our way thru & for the first time in my life, i finally know what it's like to be "in love". first marriage, i really couldn't have cared less what he did/didn't do. didn't really bother me much when we got a divorce. THIS one, holy moly, i really can't imagine life without him. this tough time has been incredibly painful but we're making it.

Good for you, 4Pack. You know a couple is meant to be together when they can weather the storm. A good storm is an indicator of whether it's meant to be or not meant to be.
