to british and bdota, are you tellin me you wouldn't be appalled at wasting our number 1 draft pick on a running back when we have much more pressing needs?

And add to that that we're missing that speedy playmaker on the field.

Jennings and Driver are great, but they're no burners. Grant is a plowing back. Jermichael is fast for a TE, but not someone with blazing speed. Nelson and Jones are more bulky than fast, as well.

Spiller would get us some serious speed on the field. We could run some more outside plays, get him involved in the passing game. Worst case scenario, we'll get a Reggie Bush. Best case scenario, we get a Chris Johnson.

He's the kind of guy that you can have on the field as your slot receiver on 1st down, have him run the ball on 2nd down, have him receive out of the backfield on 3rd down and split him out wide, creating a four receiver set on the next play. The possibilities are endless with a kid like that.

I take most of the MOCK DRAFTS with a grain of salt.

However the one that I do like.... Is from the respected National Football Post. And it just so happens they just came out with their first Mock Draft just hours ago.

Here it is..

www.nationalfootballpost.com/2010-NFL-mock-draft-Take-One.html

This is a great thread, I will comment tomorrow. I am late for a work/dinner meeting here in Toronto.

Good thread, and good responses so far.

I'd rather grab Dexter McCluster in the second or third as a returner, than draft one early.

Lets go OT if there's any value left, or add a OLB or DB to help the defense.

I think Dexter is rising fast and quick.

This kid will have a huge impact from day one.

I would love to see the Packers get him. However... He just might be Al's first round pick. (Big Ole Speed Smile.)

After the Matthews' masterpiece last season, I have quit trying to read Uncle Ted.

The only thing I can say is, I am pumped up for this draft. Not only is it deep, but I envision it to be a perfect compliment to a team making gigantic strides towards the NFL's echelon.

I do feel, however, that whilst the offensive line does need some work, it isn't as bad as last years numbers showed, and certainly is capable of being the makeweight in us drafting major defensive talent again. Just about, but manageable.

Everyone will do the first eight vs. last eight comparison with regards to offensive line play, and that pretty much sums it up. No Babre and good health = adequate.

If one of the good OT's are there I would be for taking him because then we add depth there and build for the future as Cliffy and Tauscher are running out of steam. It would be perfect to get a Cambell if he were there because we would not have to RELY on him in the first part of his rookie year BUT we would have somebody that could play there if Clifton goes down. The ripple effect of moving body's around when Clifton is hurt is troublesome.

Cambell in the 1st and a good CB in the 2nd with the depth of that position in this draft would really start shoring up what we are looking at past next season. Whatever they give us this year is gravy.

As I have mentioned before if we are looking to build talent in the areas of OLT, CB, and Safety these are not positions you throw rookies into and expect great results early. I do think that the RB and OLB positions probably would produce more results early on but I don't think emphasizing on which players would do more in 2010 than others is the way to go about it.

Again, if Ted doesn't see that player worthy of the #23 I would have no problem with him moving back and picking up a couple of early picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. If we ended up with four picks in those two rounds I think our roster would look really strong with holes ready to be filled when our OT's and CB's are played out.

Quit making up stupid pronouncements of what Ted Thompson always or never does in the draft. Especially when they're factually incorrect.

"HoustonMatt" wrote:

Is that one stupid?

Thompson usually drafts a position fans claim is one of the top 2 needed at the time with the Packers 2nd pick

( Note: 2nd pick... not 2nd round )

2005: S Nick Collins
2006: OG Daryn Colledge
2007: RB Brandon Jackson
2008: QB Brian Brohm
2009: OLB Clay Matthews

All positions fans were saying were one of the most needed positions going into the draft...

I think Ted will leave the balance of positions open to possibility and goes with a player at a position we could use help if that player is close to the same level as another player at a position of lesser need.

If our positions of need are posted as OL,CB,S,RB,LB, I am pretty sure Ted Thompson can find justifiable picks in the first few rounds that happens to play those positions.

What we don't know is how Ted Thompson arrives at his "final list" of players but what we do know is he stays true to that list and who it is he going to take based on what that list tells him at the time.

He's pretty darn good at it and this draft is setting up to be one he will more than likely carve a masterpiece out of.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
