I think pass rush is the most important need the Packers have to address this season. Next to maybe finding a young left tackle.
If the Pack can find a 2nd pass rusher that could add about ten sacks a season, then you'll see a huge improvement in guys like Tramon Williams, Patrick Lee, Will Blackmon, and even Al Harris. As some have stated, a pass rush will improve the secondary more than finding a corner.
I think Merrimen would be a great get. He's a dynamic player that is going to come cheap due to the injuries. He's on the market. He wants a payday, and the Chargers need to extend guys like Marcus McNeil and Darren Sproles instead of him. That's why they took Larry English. They're going to shop him. I would surprised if he's not dealt.
He and Matthews coming off the edge would arguably be the 2nd best pair of 3-4 pass rushing OLBs in football. I think the Steelers have the best duo. I could care less about his attitude. He is somewhat cocky, but coming to GB humbled Charles Woodson and I think Aaron Rodgers has been humbled a little bit as well thanks to GB. I think the lockerroom could handle him. He'd be no different than having another Nick Barnett in my view.
Brad Jones is a nice player, but he was still being substituted out in favor of Brady Poppinga at times. Need I say more? There's no reason why he can't be a core special teams player and a solid depth player next season. A ten sack or even eight sack starter? That's asking for a lot.
As far as Ted Thompson. He offered a 4th or a 5th for Randy Moss. He had a 3rd on the table for Tony G and he did trade for Ryan Grant. A year ago, he gave up two seconds and a third and went and got Clay Matthews in the draft. I think he could offer something reasonable for Merrimen.
