I read somewhere that there was interest in Merriman and him coming to play outside backer for us. Nick Barnett was one who really backed that idea. What do you guys think about him?

I like him. I guess part of the speculation comes from the Chargers drafting Larry English in the first round last year, and having another pretty good rusher in Shaun Phillips on the other side. I don't see it happening though. It looks like the team will look into signing Kampman next year, and if thats the case he'll start opposite Matthews.

Why would his parents put an "e" at the end of his name?

First of all, why is that the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh concern on our depth chart? If he's not signing with us for the league minimum, I'd call it a waste of money. It's like going out and buying a second car when you have tons of debt. Cover what you need to cover first, then splurge.

Second of all, didn't he have drug/other legal problems? The less drama in this team, the better.

he was caught using steroids two years ago. He was accused of some sort of sexual misconduct by a media-whore, and I believe the charges were thrown out. And I would say having an excellent pass rusher who also hold up well in pass coverage and run support ranks right at the top of our areas of need. So, there ya go.

Needs in my mind:

1. NFL-quality CB not named Woodson, Harris, Williams
2. Kicker that can hit a FG more than 30 yards from the right hash
3. Another NFL-quality CB not named Woodson, Harris, Williams
4. O line, another guard if possible
5. Kick returner
6. Upgrade on punter
7. Another LB

Pass rush is obviously an issue with this team. That cannot be denied. Jones is solid depth at this point, but I have little faith in his pass rushing abilities. You want to see improvement in our secondary play? Improve our pass rush. There you go, problem largely improved.

Our needs are OL, Pass Rush, CB. Of those three, I would think pass rush would be more important then adding more CBs, yet behind OLine help.

Pass rush is obviously important, however we have a slew of extremely young LBs that if anything are going to get better at pass rushing, and a pair of aging CBs that while still top-tier, are not going to be around for forever. If Harris goes down again, or if Woodson goes down, pass rush is not going to be our primary concern.

That being said, I want to revise the top half of my list as follows:

1. NFL-quality CB not named Woodson, Harris, Williams
2. O line, another guard if possible
3. Kicker that can hit a FG more than 30 yards from the right hash
4. Pass-rushing LB

It's obviously a concern, but I have faith that our young-uns are going to get better, and that Kampman is going to be more effective in the 3-4 if we do indeed bring him back. Harris/Woodson aren't going to get better, Williams might a little bit but Bush is... Well, Bush. We know what we have when it comes to CB, and we've got a gaping hole in Bush and two old CBs, if one of them goes down we have two gaping holes.
