Ochocinco fined $20,000 for $1 'bribe'

Really, NFL?

I will bite my tongue, as my thoughts aren't very flattering. Thank God for Chad "Esteban" Ochocinco. Bringin' the fun back.

Here is the problem with this incident.. albeit it was amusing.

Integrity of the game is the ultra premium a league has to have.. bribing in any sense has to be avoided.

So.. if the NFL does nothing.. they run the risk of another player pulling the same type of stunt.. and someone along the line makes a mistake like actually taking the dollar or money.. the line starts to creep.

Without the games integrity, it will be nothing but a shell of itself.

Digging a little into the past, that is why I had and still have such an issue with Spygate and destroying the tapes.. if they were what they claimed they were.. they should have been fully released to the public to end all the questions about them and challenging the fabric of the game.

There will always be lingering doubt unless you make the point clear.. 20 k in this matter did just that to everyone but probably Chad himself.

Chad doesn't care. For every dollar he's fined, he donates the same amount of money to his charity.

My issue is Chad is hit with $20k for what? Yet, you have players (Williams Wall, Jolly, etc) that do much, MUCH worse damage to the league's 'integrity' whom haven't been fined/penalized. Besides, I doubt Chad's antics are the ones that are tarnishing the league's integrity.

Penalize Chad, that's fine. But make it fair when compared to other fines you're gonna slap on the REAL problems.

EDIT: I also doubt that these fines against Chad will make up for the blunder of not releasing those tapes you mentioned. I still think it's rediculous the fines/penalties for players who celebrate 'excessively'..

I completely agree, in a perfect world all players in the category that hurts the league should be dealt with and handled fairly.

But just because that the world isn't fair, doesn't mean that this should be glossed over and ignored.

IMO.. Williams Wall and Jolly once convicted should be subject to their game and dollar rips.

Sorry, 93, I gotta disagree.

All this does is show the NFL as humorless.

This isn't a slippery slope "pushing the envelope" thing.

How does the integrity of the game get affected by what silly chad did? I just don't see it.

I'm not a fan of Johnson/Ochocinco/whoever. I don't go for the "see how funny/smart/creative" I am solipsism of NFL players. I'd much rather the cameras spent their time focused on the field of play and the announcers talking about football rather than personalities.

You don't get rid of buffoonery by fining it. You don't reduce it by fining it. You just make yourself look even sillier.

What the NFL should have done:
Buffoon reporter: so what is the NFL going to do about Ochocinco's latest hijink:
Better response #1: Who?
Still better response: How about those Yankees?
Even still better response: So, what do *you* think about the health care plan?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

So the next clown that tries to one up OC tries a a c-note.. or what if the ref in haste reaches for the bill? IMO, it opens up a Pandora's box of issues that never should be part of the game.

Again.. I have no issue with this act.. I found it humorous.. but I can see the reason to curtail it.

No doubt those players will get what's coming to them. That's obvious. My point was they are the ones doing the integrity damage, not Chad.

Wade hit it on the head. If the league wants to abolish the actions of Chad (and other personalities), they should be taking other options. They are really feeding into Chad's hands. It's exactly what he wants. So, I guess it's a win/win. lol

Bottom line (this is where my view kicks in..), it's a damn game. I watch it to be entertained. Yes, money is made on it.. but it still doesn't erase the fact that it's a game. It should still be treated as such.

EDIT: Added a few sentences in the middle paragraph..

I would add, my guess is that the NFL essentially want their cake and eat it too.

Fact of the matter is they want the benefits of the pub -- they want ESPN talking about the incident. But they can't say that, or then they will really get an epidemic of buffoonery.

They should have just fined him $2.

If the league really wants to punish him they should arrange a trade to Cleveland.

The league was in a no-win situation there and Goodell excels in those situations.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : And the OL protections seem to be good.

Mucky Tundra (9-May) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (9-May) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (9-May) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (9-May) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."

beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

Mucky Tundra (4-May) : @mattschneidman Matt LaFleur on how he tore his pec: “Got in a fight with the bench press. I lost.”
Zero2Cool (3-May) : Jordan Love CAN sign an extension as of today. Might tak weeks/months though

dfosterf (2-May) : Surprisingly low initially is my guess cap wise, but gonna pay the piper after that
dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
