Nice article. Grant always seems to take the cutback at the most horrible times and doesnt when theres a huge hole.

I remember being frustrated last year by all the screens on 3rd and 9, but this might be just as annoying. Im hoping that theyll go over this film a lot. Surely, Mike McCarthy and Rodgers both have to see that is not the way to go. Always looking deep. I mean, they figured that out by the 2nd half, it seemed.

And lastly, blitzing Favre. Let me start by saying that its quite obvious that Favre feels pressure and sees the blitz coming more often and easier than Aaron. Theres a slight difference in experience there. That said, Rodgers is still to blame, of course.

Anyway, when you come up to the line that obvious, you better bring a lot of heat. Thinking Falcons 11 man blitzes or Bears 10 mans. Otherwise, youll get beat in that scenario every single time. Maybe a little chaos would do this defense good. Baltimore style. Not very likely that well see that, but thatd make things a little more confusing for whoever the QB may be.

Oh, and bringing 3, essentially DTs, on 3rd and 15 or something?. I really, really hope that we wont see that again.

smh @ the first sentence:

Already disgusted, I threw down the remote and bailed on watching the whole game. Why torture myself? It was clear that these three plays would give me plenty to write about.

There was definitely more to write about. But what he did write about, was true.

I have to believe it's not true, but many times I have had the strange feeling that Grant runs only where the play is called with his eyes closed.

I see high school running backs with better vision than Grant.

Grant is so frustrating to watch run with the ball. His head is down and he runs blind. I think it's time to either get a new RB coach or find someone who actually has good vision. We have had issues with RB talent as long as I can remember. Either we can't evaluate the talent well or we can't coach them well. Grant does a good job now keeping his legs moving to fight for the extra yards but usually his head is buried into one of our own DL's backs as he fights for that extra yard. Maybe when the coach tells him to run to the light he hears "run to the white." (meaning white jersey)

As for Rodgers waiting for that big play to develop and not sensing pressure soon enough. I have to agree. In the second half of the game it got better so at least he is teachable. I just hope he doesn't always have to wait till the second half to get reminded that sometimes he needs to take the dump off.

I enjoy Al"s breakdowns but the frame by frame stuff does no good without knowing the playcall(Rodgers) While we can sit in a bubble and say oh he holds it to long or doesn't feel pressure is really convient when you can slow things down and go frame to frame.
The biggest frustration for me is how Mike McCarthy is no longer moving the pocket as much Last year we saw so many bootlegs to keep A rodge mobile. No it seems like he is being kept in the pocket be damned on e verything else.
In my summation this team is playing ho hum with no innovation or adaptation ie what happened to the inverted wishbone. A formation that u can run and pass out of.
I am therefor I think.

It's not a bad criticism of Rodgers, and it's nice to see a play get analyzed like this with photos and everything. However, this was a 3rd and 17 play. Why were we at 3rd at 17 in the first place? How often do we see those receivers underneath, no matter how open they are when they get the ball, actually convert? More often than not I see that dump off throw on 3rd and long end at 4th and 4 or 4th and 3. Again, it's not a bad criticism... if we're talking about 3rd and 7 or something. But 3rd and 7 + penalties = Rodgers looking for the downfield option. It is clear he's not sensing pressure right now, but hopefully that will develop over the rest of the season and into next year.

It is frustrating watching Grant run. I have also wondered if he's following the play instead of using his own judgement, but that's not something we can know. It's too bad because he's pulling down a big pay check.

The third and long dump off might not net a first down but it is an important part of the field position game. The part of the game which the Packers were dominated in.

McCarthy's play calling, Rodgers impatience and below average punting is killing this team. You can't give a quality QB a short field cosistently. The weather will turn soon and making the opposition march long drives will be aided by the weather. That can only help the defence.

There are certain games where he seems to see the cutback lanes much better. It's like against the Browns, they told him they were going to run and they specifically emphasized that he should be looking for the holes. He was cutting way back and hitting some shit. LOL. It was almost funny.
