Threat of blackouts at the Dome remain, even after Favre boost

The team still has roughly 6,000 season tickets available, and tickets remain for every home game, including against the Packers.

A Vikings executive addressed a recent report in the Washington Post that despite the recent signing of quarterback Brett Favre, the franchise is among four NFL teams that "face potential local TV blackouts of their home games because they have not sold enough tickets."

The Vikings announced they sold more than 3,200 season tickets and about 11,000 single-game tickets in the 24 hours after Favre signed. That left them with roughly 6,000 season tickets available. Steve LaCroix, the team's vice president of sales and marketing and chief marketing officer, said in an e-mail late last week that the Vikings still have more than 1,000 season tickets remaining for every home game -- including packages that include the Oct. 5 Monday night game when Favre will face Green Bay -- but added that those numbers vary.

Many likely assumed that Favre's decision to sign with the Vikings eliminated the potential for blackouts, something that has been an issue the past few seasons. "Obviously the signing [of Favre] was a unique circumstance that created significant activity in several areas, and we appreciate the amount of interest it generated," LaCroix said. "We feel comfortable with where we are in regards to our first two home games [against San Francisco and Green Bay], but we still have some work to do [selling tickets] on the remaining games."

In addition to the Vikings, the Post reported the teams having trouble selling tickets include the San Diego Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars. The story also noted that last season, 247 of 256 regular-season games aired in the local market of the home team, and that figure has been above 95 percent since 2005.
Ready for action

Pro Bowl defensive tackle Pat Williams will make his preseason debut Monday at Houston, according to defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Frazier said Williams was not held out of exhibition games against Indianapolis and Kansas City because of injury.

"Pat's played many, many preseason games," Frazier said.
"It's not as important for him as it is for some of our younger guys [to play]. The third preseason game is the one that he'll play in. It's nothing to do with him physically or anything. It's just a decision that we've made."

Defensive end Jared Allen also will return after sitting out the Chiefs game because of an ankle injury.

Frazier said he expects the Vikings' entire No. 1 defense to be on the field at least through the first half.

Loadholt sits out

Second-round pick Phil Loadholt, who has been working with the first team at right tackle since training camp opened, was not on the field for Saturday's practice because of a sprained ankle. It's unknown whether Loadholt will be able to play Monday night.

The Vikings are not required to provide injury updates during the preseason. Tight end Jim Kleinsasser (hand) continues to be sidelined.

Etc.

Cornerback Benny Sapp is the favorite to win the job as the fifth defensive back in passing situations, but Frazier said the competition is still alive. "We'll kind of wait and see how this [Houston] game plays out because Sapp will get some work, Asher [Allen] will get some work, [Karl] Paymah will get some work, Marcus [McCauley] is back now after coming off a [groin] injury," Frazier said. "So this game will probably give us an indication of what direction to go."

ESPN's Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski were at Winter Park on Saturday to prepare for Monday night's telecast.

Man, you'd think that they'd even a sell-out because of the bandwagoners alone.

I'd love for the Vikings to stay in Minnesota, but it's becoming more and more unlikely. If they can't even sell the tickets with this circus....

This will be an issue when the games actually get blacked out. Until then, it's a non-issue.

My wife and I priced tickets to the Packers/Vikings game, but they were way outside our price range. More's the pity. We live closer to Minneapolis than we do to Green Bay.

Loadholt has a sprained ankle? He'll be even less able to handle speedy rushers. Favre is going to be hobbling for his life.

I feel sort of for the Viking fans and the franchise in a way.. unless this team makes a run.. anything they do this year will feel like a huge disappointment and isn't going to solve the stadium issues they face.

The Humpty dome is the poorest venue to see a game that I have attended.. that includes old County Stadium.. that speaks volumes from a fans perspective. From the teams perspective it limits some of the non-shared revenue they could be drawing.. which is being driven by folks not wanting to have to deal with the limitations at the facility.

And what is worse is I think they had a huge opportunity to solve the issue all together with the new U of M field... maximizing the value of the taxpayers monies. That went by the wayside..

Adding Favre, all the hype of this team.. it isn't a big enough band-aid at this point. Unless the state and those involved can put together a plan to solidify the long term stability of the "Minnesota" Vikings.. I believe the franchise there is living on borrowed time.

And that is a shame.. Maybe they will let the Wilfs move the team out and Minnesota will copy the model of the franchise to the East a little.. ;)

Or maybe they will just become transplant Packer fans.

Zero2Cool (3h) : because he's 1st
Mucky Tundra (5h) : Myers isn't even the 3rd best C on the roster atm
Martha Careful (5h) : I am not sure I understand the Myers hate. He was consistently our third best lineman. RG and LT were worse.
beast (10h) : Just saying I don't think moving Myers would help Myers.
beast (10h) : Center is usually considered the easiest position physically if you can handle the snap stuff.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : Bust it is then
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Context. Sounds like Myers won't be cross-trained. C or bust.
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : @BookOfEli_NFL Packers pass game coordinator, Jason Vrable said that Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks shared a placed in Florida while train
Mucky Tundra (8-May) : For now...
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers go about evaluating their "best five," OL coach Luke Butkus makes on thing clear: "Josh Myers is our center."
beast (8-May) : Though I'm a bit surprised letting go of CBs, I thought we needed more not less
beast (8-May) : It was confusing with two DB Anthony Johnson anyways
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers actually had Ray Lewis on the phone.
Zero2Cool (8-May) : Packers wanted to draft Ray Lewis. Ravens stole him.

dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
beast (1-May) : Why can't the rookies be a day 1 starter? Especially when we grabbed 3 of them at the position
dfosterf (1-May) : Not going to be shocked if Gilmore goes to the Lions.
dfosterf (1-May) : I hear you dhazer, but my guess would be Gilmore Colts and Howard Vikings from what little has been reported.
Mucky Tundra (30-Apr) : S learn from McKinney who learns from Hafley who learns from the fans. Guaranteed Super Bowl
Zero2Cool (30-Apr) : could*
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Safeties should learn from Xavier.
dhazer (29-Apr) : And what about grabbing a Gilmore or Howard at CB ? Those are all Free Agents left
dhazer (29-Apr) : out of curiosity do they try and sign Simmons or Hyde to let these young safeties learn from, they can't be day 1 starters.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : I miss having Sam Shields.
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : Not that he's making excuses, just pointing it out
Zero2Cool (29-Apr) : That's for dang sure. Make our erratic kicker have no excuse!
packerfanoutwest (28-Apr) : having a great long snapper is gold
Zero2Cool (28-Apr) : LaFleur looking like he had some weight. Coachin will do that lol
