The Milwaukee Brewers are planning to implement some kind of $1 menu concession stand this season at Miller Park.

Rick Schlesinger, executive vice president of business operations, said Thursday that the franchise was still working out the details with Sportservice, its concessionaire.

There would likely be only one such stand in the ballpark, he said. The Brewers have not yet released concession prices for this coming season.

The move to a $1 menu is clearing being driven by the economic conditions. Other teams in baseball are planning similar moves at their ballparks.

Schlesinger said he could foresee a stand that would sell $1 hot dogs, $1 sodas and a small tub of popcorn for $1. He said the stand would not be open for every game this season, and would not be in operation for the opening homestand against the Chicago Cubs.

As reported before, the Brewers are in a fortunate position in terms of ticket sales, the lifeblood of any sports franchise. The team has sold more tickets so far this season than at this point last year.

Last weekend the team began selling single game tickets, and sold more than 104,000. That is a franchise record. In addition, the team reached 1 million tickets sold faster than at any time in the team's history.

Still, there are worries in sports that fans will hold onto their wallets this year. That is what drove the decision to implement the reduce-price concession stand, Schlesinger said.

Very cool. Maybe I'll have to come back to Miller to see the Brewers play the Cardinals.

From the comment section:

Two bucks for cubs fans--they also have to pay a toll to move from one section of the park to another.

You're allowed to carry in your own food and drinks at Miller Park which makes the $1 menu moot... and overpriced!

I'd love to make it over for a few Brewer-Cubs and Brewer-Twins games (not sure if the Twinkees are going to Milwaukee this coming season).

I really liked that park.

But, I will say, I'll like Target Field better. 😃
