Let's assume Aaron Rodgers wants to continue playing and the Packers want to move on to the next QB.

Lots of salary cap dancing and contract shenanigans must go down, but heck, this might be a win-win-win. Win for Rodgers. Win for Packers. Win for Raiders.

Packers get
Raiders 2023 1st Round (7th Overall)
Raiders 2023 3rd Round
Raiders 2024 2nd Round (can go up to 1st round)

Raiders get
Future Hall of Fame Quarterback Aaron Rodgers

I find it hard to believe that AR12 has much trade value unless he is willing to:
adjust his salary to a more team friendly deal.
agrees to play for at least 3 more seasons.
shows that 2022 was the fluke and 2020-2021 is what he will look like in 2023.
he is healthy.

The new team would be on the hook for about $16 million in 2023. I'm not sure about 2024, but I would think that is attractive to a team that has a good/great defense along with a good/great running game.

yea only way Rodgers doesnt play for GB in 2023 is if he retires or they reconstruct his contract to trade him. There's really no other options.

The team that trades for him is on the hook for about $16 million dollars. Does that fact change your thoughts at all? It did for me.

If the scenario envisioned is 16 million for the new team, that part is a no-brainer for the team that gets him. The problem is the draft pick compensation. I don't see a team giving up that kind of draft pick compensation for him.  I suppose a significant percentage of Packer fans sincerely believe the thumb caused the rather precipitous decline, but alot of people  league-wide think he has hit the wall and is no longer worth all that much, and many think he's washed-up completely. It only takes one team to pull the trigger, two or more is better, but zero is also within the realm of possibilities. One thing I really hope happens is that the front office works up the stones to get a definitive commitment out of him, one way or another, and do it on the organization's terms, time-wise, period. Who knows, if he commits to retirement or a trade, for example,  we just might be looking for a qb in the 1st round of the draft.

He's 39 years old and won MVP two of the last three years. He had thumb boo-boo. He had rookie WR's. He had rib injuries. And played through it all. If I'm his agent, that's what I'm saying, lol.

A team that has a good to great defense and a serviceable to good running game. I could see them dropping a 1st rounder and another pick for him. And as I've made it clear. I think Packers have to love Aaron enough to let him go. It is time. Heck, I think a good portion of us thought after 2021 it was time.

Then again, the Jets only gave the Packers a 4th rounder that morphed into 3rd rounder for Brett Favre after a 13-3 season.

Honestly, as long as we get something for Aaron Rodgers, I am good. I wouldn't be happy if they just released him, but I'd get it and get over it.

I still say if he wants to continue playing, you ask him what AFC team/s he wants to join and you start the trade talks. I just really feel it is time he goes one way, and Packers go another. This isn't disparaging Rodgers. SUPER THANKFUL for the many amazing years. I just really feel it is time. Let him go to another team with that chip on his shoulder that the Packers didn't want him. Let him light it up for a year and then retire. He's always going to be remembered as a Green Bay Packers player. No different than Paul Hornug, Jim Taylor, Curly Lambeau, Vince Lombardi, etc ...

We aren't gonna just let him walk.  The cap ramifications would be severe plus it would be foolhardy to not get something for him in return.  My guess is he will return for one more season or retire (if he returns he'll probably call it quits after 2023).  Packers management might not be as eager to get rid of him as a lot of fans seem to be.

No, he doesn't get cut or anything. He probably plays for us next year. Trading him would be preferable in the sense that the Packers are not only going to be paying him, but will probably be paying his back up around 20 million, if memory serves. When you look at the list of players we have to pay or lose, it becomes very depressing. It's early, but I'm personally leaning towards advocating towards minimizing the cap ramifications into 2024 and beyond. Putting together a contending team in 2023 does not look good. Not good. At. All.

i mean if they are desperate enough. I just chose the only two options available in order for Rodgers to leave. I dont think he will get traded IMO. he either plays again or pulls a Favre and retires and maybe come back or stays retired.. Who knows at this point.

I would bet money he does not unretire. He's spoken a lot about how difficult that was and has said a few times he wouldn't do that to someone because he's literally lived through it.

The new team would have a $15.79 million 2023 cap hit for Rodgers consisting of the $14.575 million of option proration bonus, his $1.165 million base salary and $50,000 workout bonus.

Honestly, $16m sounds doable for a guy like Rodgers. If there is a team out there looking for a chance to pull off a Peyton Manning/Tom Brady/Matt Stafford-esq twilight superbowl run, and they think Rodgers could be that guy, the cap hit is very reasonable. I'm not sure if Rodgers is that guy but I could see at least one team thinking he might be.

Some will point to the Russell Wilson trade as to why it's a terrible idea, but Rodgers is closer to a Peyton Manning type than Wilson imo.

If I'm the Packers and I can get 2 #1s or a 1, 2 & 3 for Rodgers this offseason I would do it. Obviously the market for this kind of trade was probably a little better last year. Or maybe it wasn't, and that's why he wasn't traded. Who knows.

First get his contract off our books, second, get what you can. There are teams willing to overpay.

I find it extremely hard to believe that in either of the past two offseasons, Green Bay would have refused to pull the trigger if some team had offered them a pair of first-rounders — or even a first-, second-, and third-rounder — in exchange for Aaron Rodgers, regardless of whether they thought Jordan Love was ready to hit the ground running. I think a lot of fans have been overestimating Rodgers' value on the trade market, his recent MVP wins notwithstanding.

I Tweeted something similar to this. Packers got 3rd rounder for 38 year old Brett Favre coming off a 13 win season and somehow some of us are thinking 39 year old Rodgers coming off 8 wins is gonna get us multiple day one picks and possibly a day two pick.

I gotta wonder how much Russell Wilson trade is on folks minds in NFL circles.

Bert Favor had officially declared retirement.  And oh yeah, Ted wasn't trading him within the Conference, so that's half the teams out of bidding right there.

Some good points here, I don't know if there's an apples to apples comparison. Probably the closest comparable situation is Brady and Manning, but they signed as free agents, so it's hard to gauge what Rodger's value is now or what it might have been the past year or two. Going back a bit further, other than Favre, the last aging HOF QB I can remember being traded for a high pick would have to be Joe Montana. The 49ers got a 1st round pick for him and his wheels were already clearly falling off, though he was a bit younger, I think 35 at the time.

I would say the game has changed since Montana and Favre played, gotten much safer for QBs in particular and we can see that with how well Tom Brady has held up (though he is obviously an outlier) and how well Rodgers has played the last few years, having one of his best years at age 38.

Now, would a team give up a 1st or more for Rodgers? I think if a team saw him as the missing peice to a superbowl run perhaps, but that's a pretty big if.  It would probably depend on how willing Rodgers would be to commit to 2-3 more years as well. I wouldn't hold my breath there.

The Wilson and Stafford trades are interesting, but you guys are right, there's a big difference between 33 and 39-40 year old QBs.

This doesn't make much sense because, well, the facts disprove it. The only two teams that offered to trade for Brett Favre were the Jets and Buccaneers. In fact, Favre and his agent believed the deal was as good as done. Ted Thompson refused to get into any negotiations with Vikings, Bears or Lions.

This was 15 years ago, so I forgive you for not being able to recall correctly. Receiving my forgiveness will make you sleep better at night. You're welcome. 😁😋😍
