I still am holding out hope Burnett is brought back, the two teams rumored to be going after him were the Browns and Bears, both have made some FA splashes maybe the market is drying up on Burnett and the Pack can get him for under 7mil a year.

Also I think the replacement for Burnett is already on the roster in Jones + Dix, both are better at playing up in the box strong safety than they are at free safety. Its partly why I don't quite like the Derwin James draft talk, I know he's an amazing talent so if the Packers pick him he must be real special, but the position he plays isn't that different than where Jones/Dix are suited. What the Packers really need is a backline defender like Nick Collins used to be, someone who has sideline to sideline closing speed and can play the ball in the air. I don't think Jones/Dix and even Burnett to some extent will ever be that guy.

I wouldn't have made it public I'm matching that offer so quick. If you let it stew for five days, more CB's get taken off the market and Packers wouldn't be able to make a play for them as quick. Now the Packers know Fuller is off the market so they can get involved in other CB talks sooner. Probably not that big of a deal, but I think the Bears did Packers a favor by matching so fast.

We learned late last week that the Bears were going to match the Packers’ offer sheet for cornerback Kyle Fuller, but they didn’t make it official until Tuesday.

That was the last day for them to match the offer and waiting ensured that the cap space needed for the four-year, $56 million contract would be tied up in Green Bay as long as possible.
