Brian Gutekunst interviewed for the Bills' vacant GM position, but the team instead hired the Panthers' Brandon Beane. The front office of the Green Bay Packers  has dodged another bullet. On Tuesday, the Buffalo Bills  hired Carolina Panthers  executive Brandon Beane as their new general manager, a position for which Packers director of player personnel Brian Gutekunst had also interviewed.
Gutekunst has received a tremendous amount of interest this offseason. He interviewed for the GM vacancy with the San Francisco 49ers , appearing at one point to have become the leading candidate for the position  before pulling his name out of consideration. Gutekunst also pitched himself as Ryan Grigson's replacement with the Indianapolis Colts .
While the Packers have retained one of their top executives for the foreseeable future, it seems just a matter of time before another team hires Gutekunst to lead its front office. Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson has given no public indication of when he plans to retire, and a number of potential successors -- namely former Packers executive John Dorsey and current director of football operations Eliot Wolf -- appear to have the inside track to replace him.
Gutekunst has spent nearly two decades working in the Packers personnel department. Before his most recent promotion, he served as the director of college scouting and as a regional scout.
