Hello everyone, I came onto this forum to get updates on Sam Barrington. I have known him since his junior year in HS here in Jacksonville, Florida. So far, he has been doing well in hopes of making the final 53.

It seems very likely that a number of you may have been at camp and could give me the assessment I can't get from here in Florida. In the event he makes the team, I'll be in Lambeau in December! Thanks.

He's got his chances that's for sure but he will have to unseat one of the veterans. I believe he can though. We shall see!

I believe he can as well. There is a misconception that he had trouble learning his position while in college. A major factor in that perception was how he was used at ALL 3 linebacker positions, something no one else had to do on the team because the coach did not trust anyone else with the responsibility.

Sam's natural position was the WILL because of his athleticism; however, his coach (Skip Holtz) put him at SAM for the majority of his career, and a significant amount of time at MIKE. Anyone who plays football knows all 3 of those positions are so different. Skip was fired after the season just a year after signing an extension, so that should give you an idea of how much of a clue he had as a coach. USF's former coach, Jim Leavette called Sam the best freshman he ever coached! And that was in his TRUE freshman season. I think Skip dropped the ball in developing a player who turned down Miami, Alabama and Clemson among so many other major schools.

I admit a bias, but with Sam concentrating on one position for the most part and the great coaching staff in GB, I believe the Packers have made another great late round pick up.

welcome in and thanks for the info. I thought he looked pretty good the few times I noticed he as on the field. (It is a little harder to watch individual players at times when you are in the stands and not in front of the tv.)

If you go to GB check back before you go. Whatever you FL people think is warm winter apparel probably isn't near enough for GB in December. You will need more than a really good coat.

Hahaha, I'm a native New Yorker who's been through a few brutal winters. I now live here in Jacksonville, Florida and have done so since '00. I was once a sports radio personality here in Jax, from '00-'06, so I have had the opportunity to see many sons from the first coast realize their NFL dream, including Leon Washington of the Pats.

Sam had a bit of a celebration the day after he was drafted. As a tribute to him getting drafted by the Packers, I made him a peanut butter CHEESECAKE! If he does make the team and someone wants to get his attention, try anything sweet with PEANUT BUTTER!!......lol

P.S. thanks for welcoming me to the forum!

He made my final 53 prediction.

He's a thumper, I think he's got a spot. Him and Manning will be the backup ILBs, imo. Could move up when Hawk moves on/gets older. If Manning or Barrington show they can cover, so much the better.

From his days as a WILL he had to cover TE's. I don't remember many TE's exploiting him and that includes the TE from Syracuse who had Nassib passing to him. I know UTEP is not elite, but he did catch an interception and return it for 30 yards for TD. Interestingly, his running ability is very impressive. I still tell him today that he would have been an elite RB at Michigan State if he would've accepted their offer.

If you want to see him as a HS school RB, go to youtube and put in his name and tell me what you think. He averaged about 11 yards a carry, had just under 1200 yards, and had 17 TD's and that was against Florida 5A competition! Anyway, this is the NFL, what happened in HS means nearly ZERO. Btw, it was his first time playing RB.
