Randall Cobb had an excellent 2012 season in Green Bay, totaling 2,342 all-purpose yards. But Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers thinks Cobb will be even better this year. Rodgers told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he thinks Cobb is ready to emerge as one of the NFL's truly elite players in 2013. "I think he can

I hope so. If anybody is in position to know, it's Rodgers.

On the negative side, I thought I detected a slight drop off in speed last season for Cobb, and he seems a little bit fragile. I really hope we get the most out of him at a young age, because when contract time comes, I think he will go elsewhere like Jennings - and the Packers will let him go.

Also, with the depth we have and the apparent ease to find talent at wide receiver, and the fact that other teams tend to see WR value otherwise. All of that adds up to Ted Thompson low-balling Cobb when the time comes, and Cobb walking when somebody makes him a higher offer.

Ok gotcha. You see a deteriorating 22 year old player on the downside of his career.

A year an a half from now when he is 24 I guess he will trick some team into overpaying him for one last payday. He will be really old and slow then.

You say Ted Thompson sees this too? But nobody else does. Very interesting.

Tell me, why did they waste such a high draft pick on him?

Furthermore, there's no mention of him in that other thread, free agents for 2014, so I assume we have him for at least two more years. However, then - or whenever his contract is up, I see him attracting a lot of attention. Ted Thompson has a habit of low-balling just about everybody not named Rodgers or Matthews - we all know that. Often, he gets bargains that way; Sometimes he gives in out of necessity or whatever. I don't think there will be necessity with Cobb, any more than there was with Jennings - finding quality WRs just ain't that difficult. And yes, from year one to year two, I really think Cobb seemed a step slower. I'm not saying that like it's a sure thing, but it seemed that way to me. Then there's the injury thing - Cobb ain't James Starks, but he seems just a little bit fragile - you don't think so?

The big difference that I see between Greg Jennings this year and Randall Cobb 2 years from now is age. Jennings is 29 now, Cobb will be 24 in 2 years.

Jennings wasn't allowed to hit free agency until he was 29. His rookie contract would have expired after 2009 but he was signed to an extension prior to the 2009 season.

I wouldn't expect the Packers to let a 24 year old star wide receiver go in free agency unless they think he is washed up.

I am completely comfortable with Cobb being every bit as good as Jennings with route running one day, but far exceeds Greg in athleticism and open field running. Barring injury, Cobb will receive two more contracts from the Packers.

If Ted Thompson can work some magic and sign Cobb to a team-favorable extension maybe before he is free to sign elsewhere, great. I'm just saying whenever Cobb does get to a free agent situation, I think somebody will want him more than the Packers are willing to pay. And I still think he was a step slower in his second year than his first.

Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Maye needs to be AFC
Mucky Tundra (21-Apr) : Not liking the idea of the Vikings getting Maye
Zero2Cool (21-Apr) : Vikings HC joked that he may or may not have sent flowers to Bob Kraft. That's where rumor came from.

dfosterf (21-Apr) : One playbook to my knowledge. I was shooting for facetious.
beast (20-Apr) : I'm not sure they have different playbooks for different OL positions, and Dillard run blocking is supposedly worse than his pass blocking..
